I am going for a week in October and we will be staying at the Majestic Elegance. All together it priced at about $2450. Not bad at all!

I went to the Punta Cana and stayed at the Magestic Elegance (one of the newestresort there).  while the weather, hotel, staff were all great, the food was disgusting..my fiance got so sick the last day..I would never go back..

We went to Punta Cana 3 years ago and stayed at the Majestic Colonial. My FH picked this destination b/c, at the time, I was on a very limited budget and wanted all inclusive. Beautiful hotel, but that’s about it. Both my fiance and myself got RAGING food poisoning at our hotel, and many others we bumped into did, as well. I was stuck in the room for over 2 days. In fact, my FH had to go to the ER the second we got off the plane home. I really agree with PPs that this destination is on the lower end of quality and you truly get what you pay for.

Not to mention the kids with automatic weapons on the way from the airport to the hotel. It’s really not safe to leave/go into town unless you are on an official excursion with a group.

Also, it rained nearly the entire time we were there (November). I recommend more of a desert location — Aruba, Cabo — to ensure great weather. 🙂

Good luck!

I’ve never had food poisoning in the Caribbean.  A few of us got sick at an upscale resort in Mexico, but I think this had more to do with excessive drinking and eating large quantities of foods that we weren’t used to eating.  Check Trip Advisor.  It is an EXCELLENT resource, and I’d never book anywhere without stalking their review sections, pictures, and traveler forums.

@nursein10 Its pretty much common every where Caribbean or not. It is a safe place. I am Dominican and have family over there I stay with. I never had a problem, never was in any danger, and I took taxis late at night. You just have to be smart about it.  On occassion you may get some guy saying hey mommy and whistling if you go outside of the resort area.

There are definitely spots you shouldn’t hang out late at night, but thats pretty much out of the resort area. If you venture out it should be done with a local and a big group safety in numbers kind of thing.

I often heard that about the food at the Excellence and Majestic… I don’t know why…

anyway, as I said, we were at the Melia Caribe and the food was excellent – I never ate so much in my life. And the place is just so, so beautiful. Depending on the time of the year you go, you should be able to pay everything for 3500$ tops for the both of you.

I already posted before but we booked with Expedia to the Paradisus Palma Real and stayed at The Reserve it was a suite room and we loved all the food and the place was fabulous! We went 2 weeks ago and booked everything with straight flight out of Atlanta for $2000 for 5 nights which was plenty of time! We even did excursions out of the resort! We had a great time and we have been all over the carribean and loved it!

I am excited about my upcoming trip to the Majestic Elegance but I am also glued to Trip Advisor all of the time. It seems as if food is very mediocre in the DR. Which is a real bummer b/c I LOVE LOVE to eat!! I’m not too picky of an eater but I’m just really going to try to watch out for things that don’t look good. My travel agent told us to stock up on immodium and pepto pills and just take them every morning. So, I plan on following her advice!

Other than the food, I have heard nothing but good things about the hotel, beach, scenery, etc. And I personally know about 8-10 different couples that have been to the DR and they all thought it was fantastic.

To be honest, the DR stood out to me in terms of not spending a fortune on the Honeymoon, relaxing on the beach, and we got a direct flight!! So, I’m hoping it’s all worth it which i’m sure it will be 🙂

My Fiance and I are going to Dreams Punta Cana for our honeymoon. We are staying in the VIP Preferred honeymoon suite, so we get a lot of perks. We also upgraded our seats on the airplane (FI is 6’4) and after taxes came to $2700 for a week in September (CAD, we are coming from Toronto).

Fiance and I went to Puerto Plata last year in March and it was quite disappointing. The beach was AWFUL no white sand. Fiance has been to Punta Cana and says this is the much nicer side of the island. I’m hoping we aren’t disappointed. We were limited with the departure dates down south in the middle of September, as well as the weather.
