Are you doing pictures before hand?  Make sure to factor in extra time for travel and people being late.  I had a 5 oclock wedding and had a 10am hair appointment immediatley followed by make up at the same place.  We were back at the hotel (wedding site) by 2ish, had time to iron/steam whatever, have a glass of champagne and make sure clothes and hair stuff etc was all in the places they needed to be.  It was enough time that I had time to accomplish everything needed without feeling rushed, but not soo much time that we were bored. The last thing you want to do is be rushed on your wedding day.  THAT is when you really start to loose site of the bigger picture and get lost in the stress.

If you are doing pictures before the ceremony, I say get an early start. My ceremony starts at 5:30, but we are doing pictures before and doing a first look as well. So, my hair and make up routine will start early in the morning so that I’m not rushing to get to places on time (although I’m sure I’ll be late here and there.)

my wedding starts at 6 but we’re taking pix before that at 4pm so i was thinking of getting my hair and makeup done (same place) at about 11:30. i expect it’ll be all done by 2, which should give me enough time to check into the hotel and slip on my dress. it usually doesn’t take me more than an hour to get dressed, even for fancy events (and that includes putting on my own makeup) so i’m hoping this work.

Ooohhh – GREAT post!  I’m curious about all the answers!

Does anyone know how long wedding hair and make usually take?

We had a 6:00 ceremony with photos starting at 3. I got my hair done around 12:30 and did makeup about an hour later.  I think each thing took about 45 mins-1 hour, although we did both at the same location.  If you have to travel at all, you might want to budget closer to 2 hours for each.

That sounds like a great schedule!  You’re right–you definitely need time to eat lunch in the middle.  I didn’t feel like eating on my wedding day and one of my bridesmaids made me a sandwich and made sure I ate it!  I really did need the energy to get through that whole day!  We didn’t eat until 7:30!
