I would do a later afternoon ceremony and let people know they’re welcome to arrive early and enjoy the grounds.

I’d do the rehearsal BBQ around 5. That should give you enough time to set up, and you’ll still have several hours of daylight in the summertime.

I’d go with a later ceremony and let folks know that they’re welcome to come early to explore the grounds and enjoy light apps/refreshments prior to the event. My thinking is that you’ll want to have the dance from around 8:00pm…folks aren’t likely to really get down and break loose until it’s bit darker out, so a ceremony at 4:00 would put eating around 5:00 or 5:30, with some time for mingling and cocktails and dessert before the dance and into dusk.

Also, I’d set your rehearsal time right around your ceremony time to get a feel for where the sunlight and shadows will be during the big day. You can set up some lawn games and such for playing after the rehearsal dinner and remind guests that they’re free to come early the next day.

Voted for a 4:00 start for your ceremony + let your guests know they can come early. That way people can come early if they please, but don’t have to if they don’t want to commit to a whole day of festivities. Also as you mentioned, if you start it too early I’m not sure that appetizers and a food truck would be enough food for the whole day, and into the night.
