you lose your deposit in most cases  unless you just order the  dress,

How do I go about talking to the dress shop? What do I say?

Be honest with them and tell them why they might work with you.Be Honest.

My guess is that unless it’s a small boutique type of bridal store where you know the owner, they’re not going to take it personally. They run a business and you’re definitely not the first to have a change of heart in a dress. Congrats on finding your dream one, though!  I would just make the phone call and talk to them about what happens. From what I’ve heard, you can pay for the entire thing when it comes in and then take it with you to resell it or leave it at the store and lose your deposit. It might be worth it to ask if they can resell it as a sample? At least for the price of your deposit?

Good luck!

This is not the first time this has happened to this boutique. Don’t drag it out, and don’t over-think it. Just call them up and tell them that you are considering cancelling the order and want to know what you’ll lose.
