Is there a local art school you could contact to put up posters looking for a student?

Most established, good photographers are more than $1000 so I would definitly look into what the other bee’s suggested and try looking at an art school ( I also went to Sencca for photography years ago so I know there are lots of photography students there) Senecca at york, humber and ryerson all have photography programs.

Just beware, because your budget is a little lower, if you look on kijiji/.craigslist, there may be a few people willing to photograph your wedding but make sure you ask to see at least 2 full weddings to make sure a) its there images they took b) their work and editing is consistent c) the images they showcase are not just from 1 shoot or a styler shoot but they are able to shoot in different enviroments, lighting conditions etc.

Now the key thing is, because you are getting married in a restaurant, you NEED to have a photographer that knows how to do flash well because of the lighting…So this is something you definitly need to keep in mind so you can see how they do in these lighting situations in their portfolio- ask about off-camera flash, whether they have more than 1 flash, backup cameras etc.:)

good luck!

Not sure about price but I’d recommend checking out Erika Jacobs http://oddsparrow.ca/

I love her pictures and if I had ended up getting married in Toronto definitely would have gone with her!

TheQuickBride:

also, he’s got a passion for what he does isn’t too well known but that doesn’t mean he’s not good at what he does.

TheQuickBride:  Can you share the photographers that you did like?  I’m looking for someone for an engagement shoot this summer/fall.  I’m also on a budget and would like someone that is affordable but good!   If you can email to me at [email protected] that would be so awesome!!  Thank you!

I don’t know what her prices are now but Anastasia of Olive Photography in Toronto was very reasonably priced, and she is amazing to work with! I have only done a photoshoot with her not a wedding, but her work is beautiful!

TheQuickBride:  You know what, you’re absolutely right!  Preference for style is very personal and I think I will post an ad closer to summer/fall and see what kind of responses I get.  I love that everyone is so helpful here!  I’m so glad I joined – definitely helping out with the wedding planning process!  Good luck with yours and congrats!!
