It is a beautiful cut and ring! and i think for 14000 that is not a bad price at all i have a fancy set like that and it was a total cost of just over 8000 and my center stone is just over .7 and total weight is 1.8carats so i think for hers being well over 2 that it was a fair price and looks wonderful! she is going to love it!

Sounds like the price was fair to me.

Have you asked your girlfriend what she likes? Maybe you could check her computer and see if she has any rings bookmarked? I would just ask her what shapes she likes before I buy it.

@ealfaie:  Do you have any idea of what your girlfriend prefers?  Did you ask her friends/family about whether she’s indicated what type of ring she’d like?  Has she dropped hints or pointed out rings she likes in the past to you?  Marquise can be one of those “love it or hate it” shapes, and we can’t tell you what side she falls on!  Good luck!

Does the ring have a return policy? I like the ring but if you don’t know what she likes (and that shape is really uncommon and not super popular), I feel like that price tag is really high. And since it’s not at all traditional, I feel it’s a bit of a gamble if you don’t know what she likes. Not a safe choice, if you know what I mean.

Seems about right on price to me. As for if she’ll like marquise, as someone said above, that is generally a very love it/hate it shape so it really could go either way. I will say that the setting you chose is BEAUTIFUL and I think it makes the marquise look very modern and not at all 70s-ish (which I do think that some marquise look 70s because that is when they were first really popular). If you are very nervous about it, I would maybe check with the jeweler to see if you could swap out a different diamond if she prefers a different shape? Maybe if you set that up with him ahead of time he’d be okay with it and you could propose without ruining any surprise and without any fear of her not liking her ring.

@ealfaie, i think it is beautiful and if she does have that vintage style that really fits the bill to a T! and how could she not love it! My ring has 2 small marquis and 2 small pear stones on the side and it is stunning and i havent met a single person who thinks it an “Old Lady Ring” most people are wowed that it isnt a typle round you see now a days like all the jewelers seem to have! I know my finace told me he had to special oder mine from the desinger with a swarovski stone in it to get the right cut he wanted cause like your jewler he didnt have anything in the store that really made him go wow, and he tho did have a very specific style in mind that I had NO CLUE about. To me the fact he went in and was so excited and ready is what made this the most beautiful and special piece of jewelery if your soon to be fiance is anything like me she will LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact you went in and did this all on your own and really knew her and WoWed with the most stunning ring that really fit her. Congratulations on your pending engagement please update me once you pop the question super excited for you and your soon to be finance!!!!!
