amartin102888:  Are there upgrades you could do to meet the food and beverage minimum? Ours was $8K for a Friday and $12K for Saturdays. We weren’t willing to compromise a Saturday wedding since all of our guests were driving 45 mins minimum (most driving it was over 2 hours) and we didn’t want people to have to take time off from work.  Anyway, we were able to upgrade so we decided on a more expensive steak option as a meal choice and upgraded the dessert and one of the app choices. It actually put us over the food minimum. If you really want to do a Saturday and are willing to spend the extra money you could see if you can upgrade some of the food.

    I’d find a new venue.

See if the venue could arrange floral services or a late night snack service.

Perhaps they’d be willing to donate 50 people’s worth of raw ingredients to your local homeless shelter.

i totally understand nor wanting to give someone money for nothing but inconveniencing your guests isn’t the right solution and a Friday wedding is so inconvenient for many local guests.

I would just move forward with a Friday wedding. People tend to whine about them on these boards, but I really don’t think they’re that bad. Saving $5k is a pretty big deal. You should do what works for you and your Fiance.

I guess I may be in the minority on this, but I don’t think a Friday wedding is that big of an inconveniece specially if the ceremony and reception are in the same location. If you have your heart set on a Saturday though, I like the PP’s idea to see if they’d donate the food to a homeless shelter.

I like the idea of doing a Friday wedding. My first wedding was on a Friday, and all we had to worry about was doing it after 5 so that those who couldnt take off work could still make it to at least the reception. But if your family is all in from out of town, then I wouldnt stress that too much. You might still want to consider doing it at a later time, but that’s all up to you. Otherwise, why not? Me and my fiance are getting married on memorial day monday because we HAD to have that venue, and they were booked through to 2017.. so.. weekday weddings ftw!

amartin102888:  That venue and the price is awesome, I’m jealous. I’m usually not a fan of Friday weddings because our family and friends are all very far away so Friday weddings require us to take 2 vacation days which sucks (I prefer Sunday weddings to Friday as we only have to take 1 vacation day).

HOWEVER since you said the majority of guests will be in town for the whole week leading up to the wedding, I vote you definitely change to Friday. Sounds like everyone will be off work and vacationing locally anyway. As long as people aren’t being forced to take more vacation than they were planning anyway and not trying to rush out of work early to get ready and make the wedding, I see no reason to waste 5K just for a Saturday wedding.

I would do Friday or find a new venue. I can’t see wasting 5k for nothing. How many out of town guests will already be  in town that week? If it’s a significant amount, I would definitely do the Friday wedding.

What time would the ceremony start on Friday? FWIW, as a guest i would much rather be inconvenienced and rush after work to attend a wedding than knowing my friend or family member wasted 5k!

If everyone is coming from out of town, Friday sounds like a no-brainer. Go for it!

About the Saturday though, What at is the average price of an entree? At $10,000 and 80 people, that’s only $125 a person! Cocktail hour, three course dinner, alcohol, late night food, dessert bar…. I could think of ways to spend that if you needed to do so 🙂 It’s definitely WAY pricier at my venue. Lucky girl!!

amartin102888:  I missed that in your OP! In that case I would go with Friday. Why waste all that money and not get anything for it?
