So far we have decided to go with cupcakes, but if we could find an affordable baker in the area we would get a cake instead.
Does anyone know any affordable bakers in the area. I have been turned down by some because we only want for 50 people and are doing cupcakes for the grooms cake. We will have between 60-70 people attending.
We are looking below $400 for a cake, since its pretty small to begin with. Do places like that exist?
Any ideas?

We just had a tasting last night with Cakes by Rachael in Edgewater,Maryland. That may be a bit far for you if your venue is in DC. They are pretty affordable. We got quoted $400 for cake to feed 115 people. So I am sure they will fall under budget plus it is cheaper if you you don’t get fancy fillings.

Kake Korner in Laurel, MD is very reasonable and yummy. I paid around $320 for a cake and delivery for about 60 people. You can also try Cake Plus in Laurel, MD

I second Cakes Plus. Our cake is a little over $400 to feed 100 people but that is with fancy stuff added on. If you go with something plainer I’m sure it would be in your budget. Plus their cake is amazing. Best I’ve ever had. They use buttercream icing instead of fondant.

@fuentesbee: Edgewater, MD. I have no clue how they determine travel pricing. I would suggest you email Rachael. She is so amazing and will get back to you within a few hours.

Thanks everyone. I decided to go with Edibles Incredibles from Reston. They quoted a 3 tier cake for $350 that includes delivery to DC. Their cake tasting meeting is amazing. They provide huge slices that you can take home and share with others to make sure you get the full taste of the flavor.

@PMSJL: You’re welcome! I work in that area and drive past it several times a day. I’m always so tempted to stop in and get a cake for no reason. It’s so good!

@fuentesbee: From Sterling to Arlington they charge $90 for delivery though — sounds super expensive

@fuentesbee: Hmm, I went with Edibles Incredible too…we paid 420 for a 2-tier cake for 60 people. Delivery to DC for us is $110-yikes. I did love their tasting though, yummiest cake we’d tried.
