FH and I are college students…and on our own. We don’t have a lot of money, and the money we do have…well…I can see a thousand places it can go to.
I would like to know if any of you bees know of anywhere that we could go for a great, memorable time without busting the bank or taking out a loan?

first off, no vacartion is worth taking out a loan, ever haha.
My sister did a fun camping weekend for her honeymoon, which was perfect for their personalities and interests. Make it something special that the two of you enjoy, it doesn’t have to be an elaborate out of the country holiday!

@Future.McGuffee: Don’t take out a loan, bad idea. Go somewhere local or do a stay-cation (within reasonable distance). You can do an annivesary trip later.
This is why we waited till after we graduated college to get married…we wanted to make money first.

@Future.McGuffee: the georgian and carolina coast have tons of great affordable cities. Not sure where you are located but if you want a gorgeous white sand beach vacay this could be an option

We’re going to the Smoky Mountains. Soooo much to do for free/cost of gas to get there. Lots of hiking and beautiful scenery and packed lunches, cook dinners in the cabin (mostly). Tubing for a few bucks. Most things are really cheap. It’s actually our second destination wedding/honeymoon in one (long story, lol) and we did this the first time and came back with about half of the money we brought!

If you like to be outdoors, I would go to Lake Placid – so pretty! Or perhaps head up north to Canada.

I don’t know what affordable means to you, it Means different things to different people, butthou can get a Great deal on last minute tropical vacations if you aren’t picky on where you want to go.
Id just go to a travel agent after your wedding and say “we want to get on a plane tonight, and we have this much money, where can we go?”
I did this once and get a week at an alinclusive resort in Mexico for $750 a person, all included.

How about driving to Savannah? It’s supposed to be beautiful and full of cool things to see (depending on what your idea of cool is!), or drive to Florida? A tropical honeymoon for $1500 inc tax is probably doable.

@Future.McGuffee: Go to GROUPON. They have disounted trips all the time. 🙂 Plus, you can look for places locally that are discounted

Honestly, it is hard to answer your Question without knowing more about you.
WHERE are you located (no sense recommending a quaint place on the Eastern Seaboard if you live in California).
EDIT – I see your WBee Profile now says Decatur is that Illinois, Georgia or Alabama (in that all 3 of these states have a Decatur) ?
AND WHAT are you guys interested in doing… is your desire just to sit around and relax, or you want to sightsee… or do something more active / adventurous.
As well having a bit of insight into your actual budget might also be helpful… “affordable” means different things to different people. Easier to make suggestions when we know are you talking $ 100 a day all in as a couple… $ 200, $ 300 or $ 500.
As well… HOW MUCH time do you have off to enjoy this Honeymoon… 1 Night, 2, 5, a whole week… or longer?

- Wedding: September 2013 - Pavilion at Rocky Neck State Park
If you are the outdoors-y types, maybe try Acadia National Park in Maine. They have so many campgrounds (some with cabins to rent). If you don’t mind tent camping, the Acadia National Park has campsites for $20 a night. However, there are also a lot of inns and hotels in the different harbors too. The park also a whole free bus system, so you won’t have to drive your car everywhere since they can pick you up at most all of the campgrounds. The different harbors are awesome for shopping and resturants. There are so many hiking and biking trails there too. It has a little something for everyone. Personally, it is one of my favorite places to vacation

have you tried all inclusive deals? try bookit.com, or sites like travelzoo.com. even groupon or livingsocial will turn up some crazy good 70% off deals. it’s just a matter of timing.
For example: http://www.groupon.com/deals/ga-royal-solaris-los-cabos-4?c=all&p=0

I live in Illinois. He lives in Georgia. We will be living in Georgia after the wedding.
Our financial situation won’t change much after we graduate because he took out loans, so that really wasn’t an incentive.
Thank you all for the help!!
