What’s your budget for transportation and lodging?

We’re doing the wedding night at a local hotel and spa that overlooks waterfalls, and getting driven there by a 1950’s Rolls Royce from the venue.  You could also do a cabin, with a hot tub.  Whatever would spiritually feel like getting away for some hotel time.

You could also try Priceline for the flights.

@thisorderistall:  A couple of ideas for you:

1.  New Orleans, LA.  Awesome food, great culture. And it’s just an easy day’s drive from Dallas (Google says about 7 1/2 hours; Corpus Christi clocks in at about 6 hours).  If your car gets at least 25 MPG on the highway, and gas doesn’t go over $4 a gallon, you should be able to drive there and back for under $175 (1050 mile round trip).

I searched Hotwire and you can find a hotel in the Garden District, Downtown, or the French Quarter for $80-$100 a night.  Not sure what the cost of parking would be in those areas, though (we flew in).

If you stayed for 5 nights, you could easily do it for under $700 (lodging and trans only).

2.  Eureka Springs, AR.  Beautiful little town in the Ozark Mountains.  Lovely food, and stellar hiking.  I attended a wedding there last Fall and Eureka was a wonderful experience.  It’s a 6 hour drive (same a CC), and the 760 mile roundtrip would run you about $125 in gas.

Lots of hotels – I imagine you could find something easily in the $70-$100 range.  Food’s a bit cheaper than NOLA, so you could probably do Eureka more cost efficiently.

I took a family vacation to Eureka Springs when I was a kid and thought it was completely awesome, and felt the same way when I returned last year (about 20 years later).

ETA: these are actually the last two places I’ve been, so my recommendations may be a little colored by that fact.  LOL

How about the hill country around Austin/San Antonio? Lots of beautiful B&B’s around there and cute little towns and wineries. Not a bad drive, either! Mentioned earlier, Fredericksburg is a good one.
