Hey Bees…there are probably legit watch forums for this kind of question, but hoping maybe some of you can help me out with this.
Darling Husband is graduating with his phd this month and I would like to gift him a nice watch that he can have for interviews and a “real job”. He has a digital watch now that he loves and I hate, but he’s acknowledged he probably needs a nicer one for interviewing and such. We’ve been a teacher and student salaried family and now we’re adding a baby in 9 days, so my budget isn’t huge, but I’d like to get something nice and grown up feeling. I’m wondering if I can achieve this for $300ish? I could probably go up to $500 if necessary, but if I can’t get anything nice in that range maybe I just need to rethink his gift. Suggestions? I know a watch is a popular groom’s gift!

Fossil always has great watches, and any of their licensed brands. Check out watchstation.com it carries all Fossil and Fossil licensed brands.
i shouldn’t promote them since they laid my fiancé off after 10 years recently but anything to help a bee 😂

I would say Citizen, especially their Eco-Drive collection. They are beautiful, water resistant and last practically forever

carolinabelle : I love citizen, but my husband doesn’t like stainless steel as a band, so we got this one instead which is very nice and charges by movement.
I got a Citizen Eco Drive which is powered by light instead
And neither watch runs out of battery because of how they are powered.

Where do you live? Is there a Ross store near you? They have brand watches for a fraction of the price (new and all!). Amazon has some nice Emporio Armani ones as well in your price range. Did you have a specific brand in mind?

I am a fan of Skagen watches (in fact, of all their products). They have many great alternatives, these as an example:

Shinola is closer to the $500 range, but Nordstrom Rack usually has a few, store only, not online. I got my husband one of their pricier, special occasion watches as a wedding gift and then he found this everyday watch at Nordstrom Rack for under $300: https://www.shinola.com/mens/watches/all/the-runwell/therunwell47-leather-watch-s01111.html

When I started researching watches for my fiancé, I used Reddit.com/r/watches as a guide. Here’s a helpful guide!
