I am recently engaged and new to the site. My fiance and I currently live out of state (in NY) but are trying to plan our wedding for the summr of 2015 in California (where he is originally from). Planning from across the country is not easy! We are looking for affordable outdoor venues. We are envisioning trees, lights, and good food & drinks with our friends and family. This place http://www.temeculacreekinn.com/weddings/ is an idea of what we want, however it might be out of our price range when you take into consideration food and drink costs. Any other recommendations that are similar to this? Closer to SoCal is easier but we are not eliminating the possibility of a venue further north if we find something ideal.
Thanks so much!

@alligirl: I might be able to find something. How many people are you thinking of? What is your budget range? Are you planning on serving alcohol? Are you okay with a day wedding? It will be helpful to have answers to these questions. I have several places in mind that may work for you, depending on your answers. If you want I can send you a Private Message with a list of a few?

Thank you so much! We are looking at about 100-125 people and we are hoping to serve alcohol. We would prefer to have an afternoon/night wedding and we are hoping to stay under $8000 for the venue, food, and drinks.

Temecula Creek Inn is gorgeous!! Food and a venue in CA is no easy feat- but you can do it! Do you have your heart set on a Saturday or weekend? A lot of venues have high guest and food/beverage minimums for Saturdays (ours is 12.5k before service charges) but most venues are much more affordable during the week. On a weekend, you could still do San Diego Botanic Garden or a location in Balboa Park, or the Thursday Club, and maybe La Jolla women’s club. If you don’t mind a weekday, then a Temecula winery, Twin Oaks/Green Gable, Los Willows, or Grand Tradition. There are hotels too but i didnt look at any hotels so I dont know about them. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask! I’m planning my wedding from Louisiana so I totally understand! I also know an amazing wedding planner (not sure I could plan from here without her). GL!! Venue is the hardest part- it only gets easier from there!

@alligirl: I found this gorgeous free printable invitation. To make it even more affordable, If you don’t mind the DIY, I would use brown paper to make the pocket/envelopes, and then cut gold wrapping paper glued with rubber cement as an envelope liner. See if you like this: (If not WeddingChicks.com has free ones too).

My fiance and I are getting married at Secluded Garden Estate in Pala (close to Temecula). The prices are insanely affordable, and it’s a beautiful estate with 2 ceremony location options and an adorable garden setting for the reception. I’ve pasted the website below, but if you google wedding at Secluded Garden Estate, you can see some great photos of weddings there! We’re paying $1.7k for our Sunday wedding, and we can bring our own vendors in!!

This venue looks great! Thanks for the suggestion. When is your wedding and have you hired a wedding planner? Do you have any vendors that you would recommend?

Our wedding in on April 27th…coming up way too fast!!! We do have a day-of coordinator, as the venue requires it. Her name is Mae from Making Mantra, and she’s adorable! She’s also the most affordable we could find and came recommended from the venue. She does full service planning as well. As for other vendors, our photographer and DJ are based out of LA. We’re actually STILL looking for a caterer…we should have locked one in a long time ago, but we’re on such a tight budget, and trying really hard to find something we can make work. I’ll keep you posted on other vendors we lock in!

There are a few places in Oak Glen, but with your budget and that many people it may be hard to get everything you want. We looked at Idyllwild for a few places and that would definitely get your the tree/outdoorsy vibe you are looking for.
Here are a few links to places I looked at. I don’t know the pricing on all of them:
http://wineresort.com/weddings (my coworker is getting married here)
http://www.peacefulmountaininn.com/Groups_weddings_retreats.htm (this was a possible alternate. We looked at this one. It’s pretty much a DIY wedding)
We are getting married at the San Diego Safari Park, and I know the San Diego Zoo has a lot of really pretty places as well, but those are just a wee bit over your budget. Perhaps look into them because they are essentially all inclusive and it is a really good price.
So yeah! There are some ideas for you 🙂 I hope they help! There are a lot of wineries that are super gorgeous in Temecula and a lot of them will work with you. Definitely look into that. I would strongly reccommend looking at Oak Glen if you are looking for an outdoorsy wedding.
Look into mountain towns – Lake Arrowhead, Big Bear, Idyllwild. All very pretty.
