Hey there bees! I’m a bride in the Philadelphia area and as I look at potential photographers (and I want a quality one), they all are so expensive, averaging $3,000. I’m really trying to keep the photo budget under $1500, does anyone know of any good Philly area photographers who are around that price range?
I also heard about the idea of hiring a recent graduate that studied photography, but they may not be as easily to find if they’re starting out and don’t have a website yet. Does someone maybe know of any talented graduates? I’m open to anyone who is good and had a fair price =) Thanks so much!

Check out James Graves Photography. His photos are absolutely amazing. He did our wedding (no second photographer). His prices were great and based on how many hours he would be there. Check out his website: http://www.jamesgravesphoto.com/index

courtdj : Like most things in life, you tend to get what you pay for. 3k is industry standards for a basic 8-9 hour package w/ digitals. If the photography is really important you I’d probably find a way to up your budget because $1500 isn’t likely to find you anyone with a solid portfolio. The only exception is someone who offers an hourly rate (which usually runs about 400-500/hr) and you’re only getting them for a few hours.
The guy linked above has some great work, I just can’t fathom you’ll get him for 1500 unless you’re only booking him for a few hours as opposed to the whole day.

I used Bonnie Wireback and her work is pretty good plus she’s adorable and fun to work with. Our guests loved her.
While I won’t say I love 100% of our photos, there are some absolutely fantastic ones so I feel like we got our money’s worth. $1500’s a little low for your budget, though. Her usual packages were a little out of our budget so I initially told her “thanks but no thanks” just like I’d had to do with every other photographer I’d contacted. She very nicely replied asking for our budget ($1800) and she was willing to work with us on that. She put together a custom package that included fewer hours than usual (only 6 hours) and an unpaid intern as the second shooter.

$1500 is low for Philly, especially if you want a second shooter or more than 4 hours. Have you included engagement photos in that amount?

courtdj : Hello! My husband and I photograph weddings. Because it is our second job, we charge $1000 for the entire day- no hour limit. This also comes with a free engagement shoot. Please check out our website and contact us if you’re interested! We are based in Columbus, OH but are more than willing to travel.

I used KGM Expressions. They will do a full 8-hour day for $2,000, so you could probably get them for five or six hours for your specified budget. Ray was amazing, so personable, and the photos came out great.
