Fiance and I have decided to elope (I didn’t want to before but after a long while, it seemed like the best option). I still want close friends and family to celebrate with us at a reception a month or so post elopement.
It’ll only be about 40 people and we are having a hard time finding banquet halls that can accomodate for us without making us pay ridiculous fees for alcohol service and/or catering.
Any ideas for DIY reception? I don’t have a backyard at all or else I would have had a picnic or backyard reception.

Have you checked out restaurants with private rooms where you live? You could choose an inexpensive catered measl like pasta, or many restaurants offer a very limited menu-2-3 choices- and your guests order from that menu.
Think outside the box a little too. You could have a brunch reception, an afternoon tea, a picnic etc. Do you have park buildings or pavilions that can be reserved where you live?

If you have a park area available to you, you could do a food truck, if you have them in your area. I know that sounds a little weird but I looked into it for my rehearsal dinner. Fiance and I are big on hitting up breweries and food trucks, it’s a little quirky but a lot of fun. The ones I have seen for rent can customize a menu for your event.

Yes check restaurants. We’re getting married at Maggiano’s in downtown Chicago. Some hotels may do a small wedding. Our wedding is going to be between 25-30.
