I live in New York City and am looking for affordable, rehearsal dinner ideas. Ideally, we’d love to stay downtown below 23rd Street. I’m open to dinner, cocktail party with appetizers or just about anything, but would rather not spend the price of a small wedding. Any thoughts?!? Thanks 🙂

@michbeth: My suggestions probably aren’t great, but depending on how many people you are having, have you looked into catering it in your apartment or a close friends/relatives (but ik NYC aparments tend to be on the small side). If that isn’t an option for you check out the Stanton Social. They have a loft area for small events. I loved the food/atmosphere, but I have no idea what it would cost.

I went with Adrienne’s Pizza Bar, which is gourmet pizza in the Wall Street area, right by my venue. It was by far the best option for us cost-wise. $23 pp including pizza, large antipasti and salads.

@michbeth: This is not related to what you posted at all, but we’re date twins!

michbeth, if you’re considering doing a cocktail party instead of a full sit-down dinner, you might want to think about bars with a rooftop. I’m a professional chef in NYC and I have catered a small party (30 ppl) in a rooftop bar on the lower east side where they reserved an area with couches for the party for free. It was a fun time for everyone and very affordable. Since the bar didn’t serve food themselves, they allowed us to bring in outside food–hors d’oeuvres, dips, crudites, flatbread, that kind of stuff. Just wanted to give you another idea to consider. I also got married last year and know exactly what you’re dealing with. Good luck!

@Jumi21: Which bar allowed you/the bride to do that? It sounds great.

Try Il Bastardo and The Park (both in Chelsea). I also love Spunto, it’s a pizzeria in the West Village. Small, but maybe you could rent it out depending on the size of your group?

Ajna Bar. They were willing to do a rehearsal dinner for me for a price close to restaurant week prices. The ambiance is awesome! Food is to die for! Cocktails, even better!
