Early in Wedding planning we nixed the idea of a videographer… now I am having second thoughts. I love the look of 8mm cameras- AMAZING- and I am wondering if any one knows of a reasonable videographer in the OC/LA area who shoots with an 8mm ? (a la mrs. onion)

Super 8mm is an expensive medium because there are only a few places that develop and transfer it. What sort of budget are you talking?

I saw your posting on another site too. I can probably help you find someone but can’t promise a great rate.
PM me and I can share some info.

honestly we havent looked into videography very much since we originally didnt want one. So we were hoping under a thousand. Is that an unrealistic price? Sad.
Thanks for all the help though!

yeah, I would never book someone who says they can shoot S8 film for a thousand bucks unless they are a close friend that knows how to shoot super 8 and also knows how to shoot a wedding. Just to give you an idea, Super 8 costs about $100 a roll and 1 roll averages about 2 1/2 MINUTES! The cheapest companies that do super 8 only plackages begin at $3k.
I know the idea of video probably makes you shudder, but there are some really amazing videographers out there, video isn’t what it used to be with the bright lights and in your face paparazzi vibe.—- consider having your wedding filmed ONLY and then if later down the road you want it edited for an Anniversary present or something, you can spend money for the editing. just an idea.
feel free to pm me with questions if you’d like or referrals.

i love the 8 mm look as well…i actually just booked my videographer last week. a sister company of Fifty foot films, which they are great known to do celeb style wedding… When you see their work you will drool over and will bring tears into your eyes…i know it did to me looking at million dollar weddings. But that of couse did not fit my budget of paying 12k+, so they introduce me to their other company that they just started for ppl that liked the 8mm, but need it to be more affordable. So your answer is "Paper Tape Films" they are based in Los Angeles, but will travel anywhere in southern California. Their price starts from 3000 and you will get the same look as Fifty Foot Films where ppl pay 12k+ just because the videographer were trained by them and uses the same editing company.

My sister used him back in March. He was great! I haven’t used him yet but booked him for my July Wedding and he is really easy to work with!
Oh and prices start at $1300 right now…but will be going up soon!

Hey Jhearta — this may be too late (sorry i didn’t see you asked me a question!)
for an affordable videographer try luvbugfilms — its a new division of Elysium which is the top video company in Orange County and one of the best in the country.
For less expensive super 8, there’s a lot of new super 8 companies springing up like wildfire now that Fifty Foot and Bliss* put it on the map. I would stick with those companies as they do it best, they both have offshoots — Paper Tape Films and Get Hitched! Films.

I noticed that some companies offer uneditted versions of the video they take at the wedding. I found those options for under $1000 and there are companies that will take that footage and edit it for you later…like after you recover from the financial hit of a wedding. I love the DVDs that are editted but at least this option allows you to have a video of the wedding – kind of like a home video. I’m sure you can probably ask any company you are interested in if they can do this but I found 2 that offer this on their websites: Black Tie Events and Step1 Productions.
