Try Department stores. I just got a dress at Macy’s for $63. It is champagne embroidered dress that includes bra cups. They had just marked down the wedding dresses, evening gowns, and prom dresses on Monday. It’s worth a look. I also tried on a high low style, a taffeta, and a lace gown.

I got my dress from David’s Bridal for $480. My budget was the same as yours and they had 12 dresses for me try on that met my style specifications, size range and budget. Definitely look there! I was really surprised at how much of a selection I had. I really loved their collection of Galina dresses. Pic of my dress on a model

Love this thread and the insight. I will be wedding dress shopping in a few months and have no idea where to even begin to find a nice dress that doesn’t cost a fortune.

My recommendation is to go to bridal salons, find the dress you love, and look for it used on the internet.  I scoured websites like StillWhite.com and PreOwnedWeddingDresses.com and I bought the exact gown I wanted in pristine condition, already altered to my height, and half the price of a new dress.

mbfielder :  I went to a couple of “bridal consignment” shops. My mom was clutching her pearls at the idea of me even considering such a thing, hahaha. But honestly, 80% of the dresses in the stores were brand new with original tags. Women who bought two dresses/couldn’t decide end up selling the one that they don’t choose. I would google some local places and give it a try. The worst that happens it that you waste a little time. The best thing that happens it that you find your dream dress and only pay a couple of hundred dollars for it.

Another vote for BHLDN – check out their sale stuff! The current full price line is on the higher end but they have deeply discounted beautiful dresses right now on sale! Just be diligent and stalk the site everyday to find your size!

If you don’t need a traditional lace-covered dress, and are happy with something simpler/more modern, you could buy a formal/prom type dress in white or cream.
