Yeah, I found out I had an ulcer last year.  That was on top of having gall bladder problems.  It was awful!  My GI doctor put me on some meds, but they made me insanely sick.  I also had to take Nexium.  I’m feeling better now though.  Did they not do an endoscopy?  That’s the only way to confirm you have an ulcer.  Did they do a CT scan?  FYI, all my tests were normal for my gall bladder, but when they finally took it out, it was filled with scar tissue….so, it could still be something other than an ulcer.

Seriously?  They didn’t do a CT when you were having abdominal pains??  WOW!!  Yeah, definitely try to get in with your doctor tomorrow!  When I first went to the ER with my pains, they put me in the hospital!  For the time being, just eat a really bland diet.  I hope you get to feeling better soon!!

Hug! Ulcers SUCK!  I’ve had two rounds of ulcers over the past 4 years from stress.  My job can be very stressful and that seems to be the trigger for me.  They are VERY painful! I’ve never been pregnant but I’ve told others I swear they would rival childbirth. My suggestion to you would be the following.  Eat small frequent meals for a while.  Don’t eat anything that would aggrivate it, citris, spicy food, fried food, lettuce. My doctor also has me on prilosec 2 times a day which helped somewhat.  I’m sorry you have to go through this!!!!

Oh no!  Ulcers aren’t good!  A friend of mine from when I was in jr/high school would get them when she was overstressed.

I really hope you get feeling soon, it sounds miserable.

Here’s some information about ulcers:

Note that many ulcers are caused by bacteria and respond well to treatment with antibiotics. They aren’t all caused by stress as they used to think. Be sure to follow up with your doctor.

@julies1949: You are right.  A lot of ulcers are caused by H. pylori.  The medication to get rid of it is killer.  It’s like 9 pills a day.

Ulcers aren’t unusual in people who are 23. I had my first at 12!

I’ve had ulcer problems for 15 years so I feel your pain – literally.  Yes, it’s always morphine as a pain treatment in the ER it seems.

Mine started out as bacterial so antibiotics worked and got rid of it.  But it’s come back over time.  I ended up in the hospital for 3 days last November for a perforated ulcer (essentially an ulcer that has eaten a hole in the stomach lining).  Most awful, painful experience of my life.  The weird thing was that I was having pain in my shoulder and chest so I thought I was having a heart attack.  They did blood tests and discovered air in my blood which is not good and indicates the stomach is leaking.  They had to pump my stomach (and stuck a tube down my teeny, tiny nose without numbing meds – nothing more painful in my life and I’ve given birth!) to get it totally empty and then not feed me for 3 days while the stomach lining tried to repair itself.  Thankfully, it worked or they would’ve done surgery.

Long story short, they couldn’t pin point the exact cause of the ulcer and the perforation but apparently, stay away from over the counter pain medication (NSAIDS) – they can eat away at your stomach lining.  I also second the prilosec or nexium to control the acid in your tummy.  Good luck!
