About two hours – we were on our way to NYC and I was in the bathroom at a rest stop in NJ when he called my mom and asked. He proposed about 1-2 hours later.

He waited to ask my mom because he knew she wouldn’t be able to keep it a secret from me πŸ™‚

@victoria86:  We were long distance (London – CA) and there was a lot of visa paperwork to sort out & etc so we involved our parents with our marriage ambitions before we had a ring or anything!

I asked my parents what they thought in November, we told his parents that Christmas, then the following August he came with a ring and asked my dad officially and proposed almost 2 weeks later.

My fiance called my dad (we live 3 hours away from each other) the day he went to go buy the ring.  He proposed about 3 1/2 weeks later! πŸ™‚

Mine waited about 4 months. But, he didn’t have the ring when he asked my father and my parents also spoiled the surprise a bit by congratulating me right after he asked them! I guess they didn’t know that it meant he hadn’t asked me yet…

Three months, but mostly because my parents live far away and he wanted to talk to them in person. He wasn’t sure if he’d have a moment alone with them again before he proposed so he took advantage during one of our trips to see them. I don’t think it’s typical to wait that long. πŸ™‚

@victoria86:  FI asked my dad literally 15mins before he did it. My mom knew for about 2 weeks but he never got a chance to ask my dad when I wasn’t around. He knew my dad would say yes though πŸ™‚

2 days, I think.  (In retrospect I can see how my parents were being weirdly excited about our plans to go away for the weeked!)

Try not to get your hopes up and be expecting it at every turn though.  It’s quite fun when it’s a total surprise πŸ™‚

My SO asked my Dad on March 31st 2013 (this year) and I am still waiting…he is trying to keep as much to himself as possible to surprise me but had me pick out and send him ring suggestions after he asked my Dad. We have a weekend camping trip planned for Memorial Day weekend and family members have been strongly hinting that’s when they think it will happen. We went camping to the same state park back on Labor Day 2012 when we had been together for 6 months and I think that trip was really when SO and I knew we were in love and that our relationship could really go the distance. SO was very insistant that we go back to that campground and it doesn’t open until Memorial Day weekend! He’s not usually one to plan too far in advance but he booked our campsite there 2 months ahead of time. We’ll see what happens! But if that’s when it happens it will have been 2 months from when he asked my Dad.

Mine asked my parents the day before we flew to Hawaii. He waited until the last day of the trip to propose. I figured by then that he wasn’t going to!

3 days! He wanted to ask my dad long before that but never had a chance to in person since we live far away.
