Hubby and I were working on our bills/budget today and with all of our student loans now out of deferment, we are only able to save $680 a month after sticking tight to our budget. Hubby and I are both employed and now looking for second jobs as well as new jobs that pay more. Anyone have any ideas of second jobs that we wouldn’t have to start until 6ish that might help us make extra money?

I would look into retail or food service jobs. Both of those have night and weekend availability. Yes it’s not glamourous but at least it will help you get out of debt that much quicker.

My first thought was a little risque, hahah. On the normal side of things – waiter/waitress? Retail?
This is going to sound a bit dumb, but I take surveys online and participate in focus groups to make a little extra cash. I also babysit for a family as needed on the weekends. Neither of those are guaranteed money though.

Retail and food service are good options. Also look into food delivery (pizza, chinese, etc). Another thing to consider is convenience stores like 7-11 or gas stations.

Haha yea, I want to avoid any risque! I’m almost embarrassed, I have a graduate degree and do work in my field during the day- it’s just not enough that I can have much of a savings. We are super stingy when it comes to anything not in our budget but I know things happen and I need a cushion just in case.
Anyone who might be in my position, I highly recommend using mint.com!

@Pupperoni: Oh trust me, I feel that! I’m in Grad School and I babysit/tutor/walk dogs, you name it! haha. It just isn’t enough, especially with us attempting to save for kids. 🙂 Btw, PM’d you back!

Wait tables. That’s my plan if my new job interview pulls through. I wait tables now but ideally I’ll have a full 9-5 job monday through friday and I can keep my waitress job for friday nights and saturday to make some extra “fun money”
It’s quick money in your pocket every night, it’s pretty good money if you get the right restaurant (almost $200 weekend nights where I am) and serving jobs are ALWAYS available so they’re easy to find and get.

Fi works at a grocery store. Hes that guy thats to old to be in school that you take two looks at and wonder why he is working there…..but its decent pay and he can work 5:30 to 10:30 with some weekend shifts thrown in.
