This weekend I went wedding dress shopping with my family. I figured out pretty quickly that I liked the mermaid/trumpet style the best and started mostly trying those on. At the first two stores I went to there was a pretty good selection, but my last stop was Kleinfeld and I was blown away by all of their choices. I tried on mermaid after mermaid and each was better then the next!
Finally I tried on a pretty simple chiffon trumpet. My mom had asked the woman helping us to pull it based on a similar dress she had liked on pinterest. When I came out of the dressing room my mom had gone to the bathroom, so when she came back out I was aleady on the stand with the dress on. She immediately burst into tears and said this was the one, which lead me to start crying and hugging her! It was a very sweet and emotional experience. I definitely liked the dress, but still had a few left in the dressing room I had yet to try on. However, based on my mother’s strong reaction, I hesitantly said Yes to the Dress. We had been shopping for a while, it had been a long day, and I figured if my mom liked it so much, it must be the one!
Since I picked it, I have been second guessing it. There is no beading or lace, it is quite simple, and I guess I’m still thinking “what if” about the other dresses I hadn’t tried on yet. My sister said she thought it was beautiful as well and my fiance’s mother thinks it is more sophisticated then the other dresses I tried on. The more I look at myself in it though, I question if I even like it! It’s starting to not even look like a wedding dress, but more like a prom dress that you happened to buy in white. I need help! Can you please tell me what you think of the dress? Keep in mind it is not tailored to my body and a bit loose. I am a very indecisive person so I’m not sure if this is just me being my normal crazy self or if this dress actually is a flop. Picture below:

I think it’s gorgeous!! If you want more bling, you could add a nice belt that could jazz it up, but its beautiful as is!

I think it’s beautiful. and if you want to add beading or lace to it you always can….make this dress totally your own!

I don’t think it looks like a prom dress at all – it looks great on you. That said, if it is not the dress that makes YOU feel amazing, it is not your dress, regardless of what your mom or other people think. You need to get the dress that makes you feel amazing – its your wedding. Not theirs.

I second the fact that it is a gorgeous dress! I could see where you would want something with more bling. A nice pair of earings, bracelet, or other jewelry will help add sparkle. It flatters your figure very nicely. If you feel confident, comfortable, and beautiful in the dress then you should keep it. If you only like it because it made your mom happy, you can consider something else. But I think it looks very pretty on you

I agree with PPs – the dress is beautiful and looks amazing on you! But if you’re not wowed by it, that silhouette is very popular and you could still find something similar that you love!

That dress is anything but simple. It is va-va-voom and you look amazing in it! It definitely doesn’t look like a prom dress and if you feel like you need some bling you could always add a belt but I do not think it needs it at all.
Remember there will always be other dresses. You can’t try every single one on before you make a decision. Is your concern about this dress more because you are worried that there may be something else out there that is better, or is it because you truly don’t like it? I feel like it may be the former where you had this vision of what your wedding dress was going to look like and this dress kind of just blew that vision up.
But this dress is definitely not a flop.

thank you!! i don’t even necessarly want bling, i didn’t even like all the blingy dresses i tried on, it’s more that i’m looking at all these wedding blogs and seeing all these embelished dresses and wondering if mine is plain jane, i’m glad you like it!
thanks for your kind words!
yay, i’m glad it’s not a prom dress haha! i do think i look great in it and i was happy when i tried it on! i always compare myself and i keep seeing dresses with a lot of embelishments/lace/beading/etc so i’m questioning whether this dress is special. however, i always wanted a unique dress that wasn’t like anyone else’s.

You have a great figure and the dress accentuates it in all the right places. But for me it’s too much rushing on the bodice… one way, then the oposite then the other way again and on and on it goes..

I think it is stunning on you! BUT if you are hesitate about it and just picked it because of your moms tears then maybe because its not the right one for YOU.
I got married almost 5 years ago, tried on a few dresses and bought one because my mother burst into tears it was straplees head to toe lace, i liked it alot when i bought it but didnt LOVE it, now when i open our closet and see it hanging i wish i wouldve chosen a dress that made me feel like a gorgeous bride instead of what my mothers dream dress for me was.
