When I started planning my wedding what I really wanted was get married in church and have a really small family gathering afterwards. What seemed like a “small” amount of people became a lot bigger thus wedding reception venue had to change into an actual hall which meant a lot more money, tables, decorations etc.
Ive heard other bride’s saying “its not worth it”. What is your opinion?

Not sure but I’m thinking they are probably talking about the money for the decor not the party itself. I guess it also depends on your crowd. I’m having a reception after my wedding but it has to end at 10. I know that is way to early for my crowd so we are leaving the reception and having an afterparty at a club, which will be closed off just for us.

I always thought these after party things were to continue on the night, but you have to remember that your day and those involved in it will be pretty long! My daughters both had them, but really, people only stayed for about an hour as people were tired and wanted to sleep. Both receptions ended at 11, and most disappeared to their rooms right after midnight. Both were destinations, so no one was driving home…

@LoisLane: are you talking about a weding reception or an after party that is after the reception?
It seems to me like the OP is talking about a reception but the responses refer to what would happen after the traditional reception.
