We booked a photographer to shoot our wedding and engagement photos by signing a contract, but have yet to pay our deposit.
Our engagement session was in early December and the photographer told us that his assistant was going to be shooting it and not to worry about paying for it, it would just be included in our wedding package, and our deposit isn’t due until June.
I have yet to receive the photos, and it’s been almost two months, so I reached out but haven’t gotten any response. I’m getting really worried, this seems incredibly flaky and unprofessional. Is this normal? Besides the fact that I really do think I should have received the engagement photos, I think it’s terrible not to respond to my email, which was kind and not aggressive in any way.
What can I do? If they don’t get in touch soon, can I book someone else?

That does seem a little off to me. I wonder why they didn’t want a deposit, most places do because they want to have you invested in the date and keeping them as your photographer. Have you signed a contract with this photographer?

@MrsSaltWaterTaffy: Yes, we did sign the contract, but they said the deposit wasn’t due untii 2 months before the wedding. It’s a friend of a friend, so he’s been pretty laid back, but I think we’re now seeing the bad side of laid-back…

Hmmmm…that sounds a little fishy. I would contact them again and tell them that you’ll given them a partial (or full) deposit when you receive the photos. Money might motivate them to get it done! Good luck!!!

Yea, you should call them until they answer. I didn’t think it took 3 months to get engagement photos back. Or at least NO contact at all for 3 months. I wouldn’t like that at all.
