If it wasn’t in the contract, then you are not obligated to pick and pay within 7 days.  Nicely point this out to him.  If he must get rid of space, then he needs to put your images on an alternate storage device until you are ready to purchase.  This is easy for him to do, and you just need to (nicely) make him aware that you are well versed in your contract.

Is there an option to buy the digital images for a flat rate?  And yes, it does seem fishy that he is trying to get you to make your decission in 7 days or loose them all – that seems a bit off.  Usually you have a longer period of time to order them – I know my sister ordered hers 6 to 8 months later for people who saw them and wanted them.

Get out the contract and read every word of it and see what is in it!

Our engagement session included a dvd of all images.  The timeframe sounds extremely strange for a photographer because most photographers are still emailing discounts out for wedding pictures up to a year later.

If it is not stated explicitly in the contract, you are not bound to abide the deadline.
