So, now that the wedding is over it’s time to think about all of the fun stuff like name changing and joint accounts. I can’t change my name until we get back from our trip next month because I don’t have enough time to change my passport and travel info. We have a bunch of checks from our wedding that are made out to Mr. & Mrs.____ and the bank said that we need to open a joint account and I will just have to sign both of my names on the check. I originally didn’t want a joint account so I don’t know how to approach this. Our checks need to get cashed soon because the wedding was 2 weeks ago now. I wonder if there are any other options… Am I being wierd? Did anyone else not open a joint account? If so, what did you do with the wedding money?

Usually, if both of you go to the bank the other one can sign over the cheque so the one person can deposit it.

@Elarissa: ditto. sign it over to one or the other @ the bank. It’ll work that way. (But you have to have your name changed still, since you’re still Mrs original name and aren’t the name on the checks.

We got some checks made out to the both of us at our engagement party. He just deposited into his account at an atm…. no problems.

I was able to deposit all the Mr & Mrs checks into our banks’ ATM without any problems. Just sign with the name on the check.

We had the same problem. I could not deposit the checks into any of my accounts because my name was nowhere on the check. We didn’t want to open a joint account. My husband was able to deposit the checks into his account because his name did appear on the check. I had already signed them when he took them to his credit union. He signed them as well and they deposited them with no problems at all.
