My sis is 2 years younger than me. Growing up we got along well and it was nice to have someone close in age to play with. We weren’t bestfriends and share all our secrets close, but we did have a good relationship. We had our own groups of friends, but as we both reached our 20’s we started hanging out with eachother’s friends more often. I think the ideal age difference is between 2-3 years.

HunterJune:  My mom had 4 kids in 5 years. My last two siblings were absolutely exhausting for her as my brother and sister were only 12 months apart. (It also wasn’t healthy for her body to get pregnant so quickly.) I love my sibling quite passionately and we are all really tight now. Except we weren’t when we were younger. We played together but I fought with my sisters a LOT (both 2 and 4 years younger than me.)    Also, my parents are now experiencing the joys of putting three kids through college at the exact same time. This is an obvious stress for them, so keep tuition payments in mind if you plan on paying for your kids to go to college.

HunterJune:  My Fiance is the middle child of 3 boys.

Fiance and his older brother have a 3.5 year gap. They have the closest bond of the 3 brothers.

Fiance and his younger brother have a gap of 5 years. This was enough of a gap to kind of make the younger brother too young to really hang with Fiance and his friends. Where as Fiance and his older brother were together a lot, even when Fiance was still in high school and the older brother was in college.

So that’s about an 8 year gap between oldest and youngest. They aren’t really close, but they aren’t totally distant, either. It kind of sucks for the youngest brother because he’s still in college, while Fiance and his older brother are married or soon to be married and starting their lives with new family.

Honestly I can’t vote as I don’t know if there is a best, just a what is best for you. My mil has 3 kids, all 5 years apart. I have 4. My oldest is 14, my dd will be 7 this month and then my other son is 5 1/2. Then the baby is 7 1/2 months lol.

i loved having that big age gap between my older son and dd.  but then I also loved having my dd and my other son being just shy of a year and a half apart. And now the baby’s closest sibling is my 5 soon to be 6 year.
