I was also 18 for a couple of months. And I lived with my grandfather as well. I went off to college and never returned home.

I first left home at 17 for college.

Then I moved back in with them, until my husband and I bought a house when I turned 21, been out of the house and on my own since.

I left for college at 18. I came home for the first 2 summers, and after that I was gone. When I left I always planned on going back. Even after that last summer, I was planning on coming back for the next summer. It always felt sort of unfinished and odd, but I met my Fiance in college and I had a life here. I ended up going to grad school out here and now this is my home. The summer before grad school I crashed on my FI’s couch with all my stuff in his attic. My parents kept asking why I wasn’t coming home, and my thought was just–what the heck would I do out there? Still, I didn’t actually change the number in my phone labeled “home” until Fiance and I got a house with a home phone number at the end of my second year in grad school. When my dad realized that one day while borrowing my phone, I thought he was gonna cry. Growing up is weird, amiright?

I was 18 when I moved out when I left for college. I couldn’t go back to where I left as it was unhealthy living environment so I was homeless for a while but then I reconnected with my dad when I was 20 and stayed with him during my summers off. Eventually when I graduated college and went on to graduate school I moved in with my Fiance and I couldn’t be happier.

Moved out of my parents’ house for college when I was 18 and never moved back in with them. I love my parents dearly and did move back to the same city after graduation, but not the same house. We get along much better when we don’t live under the same roof. I’m 32 now and live about 2 miles away from them and see them very often.

I moved at 18 for college. The place where my parents live didn’t have the educational opportunities I was looking for.

doglovingwife:  I moved out a couple weeks after I turned 18, took a year off school and moved around. Then went to college and moved home when I was 19 for a couple months of summer break. When back to school and haven’t been home since.

My Darling Husband left for university when he was 18 and lived with his parents on and off for a couple months at a time (worked a ways away from home but would come back for a couple months every year) until he was 28 and we moved in together.

My parents lived in a city with the university program I wanted to take, so I moved out for a summer job in my 2nd summer of university at the age of 19, then out for grad school at 22. went back for 2-3 months twice between contracts, but haven’t really been back since.

I moved out at 18, but didn’t have an apartment besides dorms until I was 20
