First of all…. *breathe* 🙂

Ok now, there is nothing wrong with already looking into these details. The more you do now, the less you will stress about later. I am getting married next August and I have a lot booked, including having already ordered my gown too! If you speak with your bridal shop (given that you purchased your dress at one, and not online) they are usually willing to hold onto your dress until you are ready to pick it up. That is what I am doing!

Second, you can order your invites whenever you would like, however… your guest list could change by the time you are ready to send them out. Mine has already changed in the last 3 months! You just want to be sure you order enough!

Third, try shopping with your BM’s if possible. See what styles they pick out. What if you picked a designer and then told them to pick out a dress they like, in the blue or yellow you like? Do you want them all to be the same? So many different options these days!

SMILE 🙂 this is supposed to be exciting girlie!

i got engaged a month ago and our wedding isn’t unti May. i have already locked down the venue, the photographer, figured out my centerpieces and dress is ordered. i agree…the more you get done now, the less you have to worry about later, but don’t stress yourself to the point it isn’t fun.

the bridal store i ordered my dress from will store it for me until the wedding day. check with the store where you bought your dress.

my BMs are all different shapes and sizes so locking down one dress was not a good idea. i went shopping with my Maid/Matron of Honor and she picked Mori Lee. together we picked a color and found that this designer has so many cuts and styles that they all can pick a different style, but stay with fabric and the color we chose. EVERYONE was satisfied with that compromise.

good luck and hang in there Smile

i live in West Texas and i KNOW what you are talking about in concerns to our weather here. if your venue is indoors, i think it is a matter of opinion on length. mine is indoors in May and we are doing cocktail length dresses for all the girls. if it is BLAZING hot, we have A/C. if it is a little chilly for some crazy reason, we are indoors. i guess you need to figure out where first, before you decide on dresses.

i know this sounds nuts, but a friend didn’t want her BMs to spend a fortune on a dress they couldn’t wear again. they all went to Forever 21 together and found a super cute dress they all could agree on. since it won’t be long until holiday parties start rolling around…check out Express and Dillards. they always have super cute cocktail dresses with different lengths and shapes with relatively close color schemes.

a really OUT THERE thought…if you do go with the Dillards (etc.) idea…how about letting the girls wear black and do yellow or royal blue shoes? it would be SUPER cute and black is easy to find anywhere (and flattering to most). you can use the royal and yellow in flowers, decorations, cake and such.  – – just a thought

@pepsodiny: absolutely!!! my wedding is white, silver (pewter) with some hot pink. the girls originally wanted to wear silver with hot pink shoes but decided last minute to wear hot pink dresses with silver shoes. i love pops of color and will be wearing hot pink shoes under my wedding dress and in my engagement pictures in a couple weeks. i am not one to overdo a color…i don’t want a Steel Magnolias moment.

i think you will do a GREAT job and it will all come together in time. my BEST advice, peruse wedding blogs and look at pictures from other’s receptions and weddings. it gave me TONS of ideas. i was so scared of using my hot pink until i saw it used in other weddings. try: bridetide/blogspot. it has the top 100 blogs and it was SUPER helpful.

@da3lyn: We’re wedding day twins!

We got engaged November 2009 and the wedding is May 7, 2011. We *just* started planning last month. Sounds like you are very organized and have taken care of some of the bigger items for the wedding. As someone else said “breathe”! You may want to go the route of having your BMs wear the color you picked, but in different styles. That way everyone feels comfy and pretty for the big day.

It’s never too early.  You have a great deal to do; you need to focus on YOU and how you will look and feel that day.  These days should be fun.

What I would do is to bring your brides maids all together and tell them, “I want you all to look fabulous and feel comfortable the day of my wedding, so I want you to pick out a dress -long/knee length/tea length, you set the bar on that! –.  Say you don’t want boobs or strapless or knees showing.  Select a color.  DONE.   Regarding shoes, tell them you want ‘silver’ or ‘gold’ or whatever color you want and let them find a shoe and dress in their price range.  Yellow and blue if hard to match so maybe you would want to try not to match the color and have everyone carry white flowers that day and you can carry colored flowers.  That would make a nice wow factor.

You can go online to JCrew and Nordstrom’s and select some styles that you like and tell them ‘along these lines.’

Regarding your dress, you may want to try a town an hour or two away for more choices.  Also go on line and if you see something you like, call around and see if they have the dress instock to try on.

I love http://www.sandstone.cceasy.com for invitations.  They are very nice and I’ve used them for various invitations and have never been disappointed!!  They are budget friendly and don’t look it!!  The prices are affordable, especially the petite white and petite ecru and some of the styles offer 25% off.  What you save you can have the little extras like engraved return addresses which makes it look more upscale without paying the price!  I really love this place.

I think it will be fabulous.  What are your thoughts?
