So, my Fiance and I have been together for six and a half years, and we have been talking about marriage for the past few years (we’re a young 22 and 24). On Christmas Eve he told me we had to wake up early for my present. We left the house at 4 a.m. and when we finally arrived at our destination, it was for a hot air balloon ride!!! I am such a hard person to surprise and this was the best present ever. When we got to the field where we would take off, all of the balloons were getting set up, and the first one took off. Moments later it disappeared into the heavy fog, and our operator walked up to tell us that all of the balloons would be grounded because the weather made it too dangerous. Well, from the look on my FI’s face I knew something was up (also, maybe I knew since a hot air balloon ride is not an everyday thing for us lol). We had to reschedule for the next weekend, but he surprised me even further by proposing the next day on Christmas morning!
We always have to run around from family to family on holidays because we live out of town, but in the rush of the morning he suggested we head to a park which we frequented in our early days. We walked the trail for a while before he got down on his knee and popped the question. He said he couldn’t possibly wait for the following weekend, and it was so great to be able to share it with all of our family on Christmas!
Sorry that was so long winded. I am just so excited! I still can’t wait for the balloon ride this weekend! Here are some pics of my beautiful pear shaped engagement ring! I still can’t decide which direction to wear it, it’s just so beautiful both ways =)

Beautiful! What a thoughtful FIANCE you have 😀 Congratulations, and btw, you can wear your ring any old way you like. I like it pointing out the best. Something about it pointing to your future, (insert sappiness here)

Gorgeous ring and a sweet story! Congratulations!
And also, I prefer pears the first way, but that’s just me. 🙂 Either way is beautiful.

Your ring is beautiful!! Best wishes to you and congratulations to your Fiance on your engagement!
I used to love the look of pear-shaped rings with the point facing down (toward the wearer’s body.) However, I was informed by those in the jewelry business that the point technically is supposed to face up (away from the person wearing it.) Given that, I’ve learned to love them with the point facing up, and I wear my pear-shaped gemstones that way. (My e-ring is round.)
Having said all of that, I have a friend who has been married for many years who has a huge pear-shaped e-ring, and she chooses to wear hers with the point facing down. So, even though there may be a “proper” way to wear pear-shaped rings, I think you could choose to wear it whichever way you ultimately decide you like best.

congratulations! i absolutely love your ring!! pear shapes are so pretty!
@Brielle: i always wondered which way was considered “correct.” i prefer the look of them pointing up, but after seeing a lot of photos of people wearing them pointing down, i had to wonder if i had been looking at them wrong. XD
