My fiance and I are looking to go to Jamaica and stay at an all inclusive for our honeymoon. I’m just looking for opinions from people who have been, or from people who have knowledge of them. Here is what we are looking for:
-a beautiful view
-prefer Montego Bay, but Negril or Ochos Rios isn’t out of the question
-would like to be able to walk into town for shopping, sightseeing, or if we just want to venture out for food
– under $3500 from Evansville, IN in July (14-20)
– would like to be able to order room service (I’ve heard you have to have a certain level of room at Sandal’s to get room service? thoughts/opinions on that?)
-garden view room is fine, but obviously ocean view would be prefered
-it doesn’t have to be top of the line resorts (a step up from a holiday inn is fine with us- we wouldn’t mind a “real Jamaican experience”)
-does not have to be adults only, but okay if it is
I know that is a long list, but hoping someone here can help out.

My Fiance stayed at the Riu a few years ago and said it was great and very well-priced.

We went to Couples Tower Isle in Ochos Rios for our honeymoon and it was amazing! You can’t just walk into town to go shopping but they have a shuttle running in and out all day. The view, the food, the service is all top quality and we can’t wait to go back. Couples has 4 resorts all in Jamacia, I highly recommend looking into it. I believe it was less than 3,000 total with our airfare, and we had an oceanview suite.

We went to Couples Sans Souci in Ocho Rios, and it was incredible! I think it fits all your criteria except walking into town — but they do have a shuttle that goes to shopping areas and such.

COUPLES!! I think it fits most of your requirements. The only one I’m not sure of is walking distance to a town because we did not leave the resort! I’m pretty sure the particular one we stayed at (Couples San Souci) was not walking distance, but you could easily take a shuttle or call a cab.

@missmovies: We stayed at the RUI Ocho Rios .. it was a nice hotel!
The only thing I didn’t like about Jamaica, Ocho Rios in particular, it was very far from the airport–like 1-2 hours away, a pretty scary bus ride to the resort! And where our resort was, it was a very run down part of Jamaica.. I was not comfortable leaving the resort.. and we didn’t. But those resorts are so nice & big, there’s no need to leave if you don’t want to. So from reading what you’re looking for, I’d stay away from Ocho Rios–the RIU resorts are very nice though.. and we paid like $2800 for a week for the two of us AI

@MrsJJC: We went there too for a trip this past May and loved Couples Sans Souci. We felt like there were like 10 people at the resort on most days. The only time I realized there were more people was when they did the gala nights. And the staff was amazing, entertainment was great, and it was so relaxing!

Darling Husband and I went to Montego Bay for our Honeymoon this past summer. We stayed at Secrets Wild Orchid (the other side is Secrets St. James and was slightly cheaper).
The resort was great, the staff were amazing, the food was great. We LOVED everything about our trip!
Now we were flying from Canada, flights from Canada tend to be more expensive. For the entire trips (flight, AI trip, everything) it came to $5100.

Definitely look into Couples resorts. We stayed at San Souci and really enjoyed it.

I am looking to book at Iberostar Grand Rose Hall, it is one of three AIs in one complex. The grand is adults only and is more expensive than the other two, but it’s the number one rated hotel on tripadvisor or Montego Bay, check it out!

Darling Husband and I stayed at Royal Plantation, which offers a choice of an AI “Royal Plan.” It’s an absolutely amazing boutique hotel with top-notch service, room service, amazing food, gorgeous views, etc. However, depending on how long you would stay and what room type you chose, it may be out of your desired budget range. I think it’s still worth exploring, however, even if you could only stay there for part of your trip!

Couples negril was fantastic, but the couples resorts tend to be a bit more pricey but not sure about in off season when you want to go

+1 For looking into the couples resorts.

We went to Couples-Swept Away in Negril and it was AMAZING!!!! I have talked to people who have stayed at Couples and Couples-Swept Away and they all said Couples-Swept away had more activities and the food as better.
Either way you will have an amazing time! The people are so friendly!
Couples is a LOT better bang for your buck than Sandals is, just FYI.

Thanks so much to everyone! I had done some research prior to posting this question, but wanted input from people who have been there. The majority seemed to vote for Couples, and we finally settled on Couples Swept Away. It was at the very top of our budget, which is why we were hesitant to book it in the first place, but in the end, we decided it would be worth it!
To everyone that voted for somewhere other than a Couples resort, I did look at each and every one of the other resorts suggested, and they were all spectacular resorts. However, some of them were unfortunately out of our price range (I loved the look of the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall, Secrets and Royal Plantation though!) and the ones in Ochos Rios were nice and in budget (actually under budget) but we just fell in love with Couples. Hopefully we made a great decision!
Thanks again bees!
