I’m not sure what your budget is, but a small electronic device, like a nano, nintendo dx (I think that’s what it’s called – Fiance got a used one for $80 with a game). Food is out since they can’t bring it through the gate… hmm…

How about a little logic game book? You can usually pick those up at Barnes and Noble – something that has puzzles? Maybe an eye mask so he can rest, or a neck pillow?

gum! In case of the ear popping. Maybe a little sudoku or crossword book if he likes that. An eye mask. Chapstick (my lips are always chapped on a flight). Some cozy socks or a little inflatable pillow?

Aiborne!  The recycled air on planes carries all sorts of crazy stuff.

A nice eyemask, since he may want to nap when the lights are on.

Travel sized toothbrush and tooth paste.  It’s so easy to shove these into checked baggage, but you miss them on hour six or seven of a transcontinental flight.

I second the travel sized toothbrush/paste or even just floss sticks. After hours of a flight and meals/snacks I always want to brush my teeth!

@KatNYC2011: Can you steal his iPod and load a stealth playlist of songs that are important to the two of you?

My husband’s phone has a voice memo feature, and I’ve been known to record surprise messages for him to find.  Just quick little “Hi, love you!” expressions.

I’ve also purchased postcards of NYC and hidden them in briefcases, luggage, etc.  Bonus points for landmarks that are singificant to the two of you.

What about one of those small digital photo frames where you can record your own voice? Upload a pic and whisper sweet nothings in his ear.
