I went today to see and try on a cushion cut halo ring, I noticed that there was a space between the halo and the center stone which I’ve never seen before. Can this be altered ? I asked the woman and she said she would need to speak to the jeweler about closing up the space a bit. Anyone know how it’s done ?
Ill attach a picture, even though it’s kind of crappy as my toddler was pulling on my arm while I was trying to take the pic lol.

Is the stone actually SET in the setting? Or just sitting on top?
If it’s actually set I would not accept this. The setting is too large, meant for a much bigger stone. Airlines can be done nicely, with purpose. This just looks messy.

jellybellynelly : I’m pretty sure it was set. How would I know if it wasn’t ? Sorry this stuff is new to me.
My hand is angled in the picture, it didn’t look messy in person it was just a larger gap than I’d like. Or maybe it is messy and I just don’t know what I’m looking at lol.
Can they fix this ? Or would I need a totally different ring ? This isn’t purchased or anything yet, I just want to know what to ask of when my boyfriend goes back.

nkj317 : you would know if the stone wasn’t set, as you would have to hold your hand extremely still in order to keep it from falling off the setting. I think it likely only *looks* messy due to the fact that your hand is on an angle, making it appear that the centre stone is set crookedly. Personally, if it were me I would ask if they could re-set it into a “seamless” halo that fits tight to the stone (where the diamond is set low so it almost appears flush with the halo).

snickerwickens : Thank you ! Okay so then yes it was set in. & it definitely wasn’t crooked it must be how I’m holding my hand .. it’s angled and I was holding it up right.
Can they re set it lower into this halo or do you think they’ll need a totally different setting ? When I asked the woman she said she would talk to the jeweler about adjusting it, I assume she meant in the same setting it’s already in.

My experience has been very bad when asking a jeweler to make adjustments to an existing setting. I probably found a bad jeweler, but now I’d just get a different setting or different size stone if I were in your shoes. I wouldn’t have the jeweler adjust the setting or halo because they might bend it or make the setting insecure for the small diamonds.

nkj317 : if I were you, I’d find a jeweler that understands what you want and can show you examples of seamless halos they have crafted in the past. If this particular jeweler doesn’t have any experience with that kind of delicate metal work or doesn’t understand the concept, find someone who is! Good luck!

nkj317 : you can’t adjust a halo – it would need to be entirely remade. That halo is meant for a larger center stone.
