The AA store near me encouraged me to take pictures for my Mom who is halfway across the country from me. I went in with a specific dress that I knew I wanted to try on, but that isn’t necessary. Your consultant should help you out. As for your last question, I couldn’t quite answer that for you, because I wasn’t in that situation. What I can tell you is that the several times I visited AA, I had excellent customer service.

Yes, yes, and I don’t know… it probably depends on your consultant.

ETA: If you have a printout with specific pictures it will help; if you just have style numbers they will have to go find them in a book to see what they look like before pulling them.  They might have you just look at a catalog when you get in and point out any you want to try on.

@colorofmyheart:

1) I was allowed to take as many photos as I wanted when I tried on dresses at an Alfred Angelo signature store.

2) It’s always a good idea to have a list of the style # and/or photos of dresses you like, so that you don’t waste time with dresses you don’t like.

3) This one, I have no idea how the consultant might act. If you are really worried, wear a nice ring you already have on your ring finger. If the consultant asks, just tell her that you wanted a less traditional ring. I have a non-diamond engagement ring, and none of the consultants treated me badly (or even asked about my ring for that matter) at any of the places I went to.

Enjoy the dress-trying on experience!

1.) They let me take pictures, no problem.

2.) If you have styles in mind, sure.  But you don’t have to.  I went in with only some general ideas of how I wanted to look, and ended up purchasing a dress my consultant pulled for me.

3.) A good consultant should never treat you rudely, regardless if you have a ring or not.  Don’t stress about it.

Good luck with your search!

  1. yes, if they allow it
  2. yes, but allow you cousultant to offer a few dresses she thinks may look good on you (my consultant picked both mine and my sister dress)
  3. I was treated slightly differently just bc I don’t have a ring. They don’t need to know you are not engaged, though. I am engaged without a ring (I proposed to him) and as long as you can give them a date, it’s none of their business whether you are actually engaged or not
  4. do NOT let them pressure you into buying a dress today if you’re just looking. Even if you find *the* dress, just walk away and come back in a few days/weeks; if it really is *the* dress you’ll know it when you go try on other dresses first.

You can always tell them that you’re newly engaged and your ring is out being sized.  What a previous poster said was right too…a good consultant would not be rude to you regardless.  They would hope that when the time comes for you to purchase a gown that you would come back to them to do so, so a good consultant would give you excellent customer service.

As a bride that has looked in stores all across the country.   Things vary about the pictures.  I found 80% of them were fine with it.   But the 20% that weren’t really didn’t allow it.   One place because my mom was 2000 miles away, guarded the door so no one would see her letting me take pics.

I would call and ask them first.
