I just put the initial deposit down on my dress last Saturday. After speaking with another Alfred Angelo bride, it’s our understanding that not only do you have to pay the remaining balance within 14 days of when the dress comes in (we already knew about that and expected it), but you have to physically bring your dress home?? They won’t hold the dress until just before your wedding? I thought that it was customary that wherever you bought your dress will hold onto it until your final fitting…..especially if having alterations done (as both of us are). They also told her 10-12 weeks for it to come in, and it came in after only 2 weeks. Can anyone shed some light on the situation?

I had to take my dress home immediately. I believe that they just don’t have the physical space to hang onto every bride’s dress for the many months before their weddings. I kept my dress at home for a while, and then I went for alterations…not at Alfred Angelo. My seamstress was able to keep my dress for the entire period leading up to my wedding, which was great.

Same thing happened with me… I had to bring it home right away. They didn’t have the physical space to store all of the dresses.
They also told me that my dress would take about 10 weeks and it was here in less than two weeks!

@mthoma27: I think that’s pretty horrible. I LOVE my DB dress but the reason I ordered it so quickly was because it was going to *puts hand on forehead for dramatic effect* take months! to get to the store and.. as said by them.. you want to have to it for the wedding so order early 😉 im bitter.. and my mom is livid. we’re going on friday.. let’s see.

Yeah, they wont hold them because they are “too big” and can’t possibly have enough room to hold every brides dress until right before her wedding so they just don’t.

Ok, it’s understandable that they dont have room in their store for every dress that anyone has ordered. Stinks that I’ll be having to rent a climate controlled storage space or something because I’m totally petrified about having it at my house and something happening to it!!
My next question is, how will alterations work? In my case, I’m having changes made to the dress (having the sweetheart neckline deepened, and having beading added). So let’s say the dress comes in within the next few weeks…..I’ll bring it home and then bring it back when?? I could understand coming back in a few months to start alterations for sizing….but with making changes to the actual design, I’d like to have that started right away just in case God Forbid something goes wrong. Know what I mean?

OK you ladies are scaring me. I have an AA appointment on Sunday and was planning on buying from there. The wedding is a year away and there is no way I can store the thing for that long! Not to mention the store is 2 hours away and having to go back and forth sucks.

@Hobokenbride2012: Well, here’s the thing. Although all of this seems like a PIA, Alfred Angelo is a wonderful place. I’ve been to 2 different ones and was very pleased with my service. The one I purchased at is about an hour away, so I feel your pain. Their dresses are worth it though, in my opinion. I feel that their dresses are the nicest for the price range they fall in, most are under $1000.
I would say maybe call them first and discuss it with them. Or discuss it with them when you’re there. I wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity and I’m sure they wouldn’t miss out on a possible sale for something like that.
One word of advice, especially with this new revelation of having to store the dress yourself….don’t put too much pressure on yourself to find THE ONE. If you still have a year, of course it is great to start looking, but maybe just keep it at that for now unless you KNOW you found it. Know what I mean? I got engaged last Dec and the dresses I picked out then are 100% completely different than what I ended up getting.
Happy Hunting 🙂
