We were very practical with our registry.  We had mismatched dinnerware before, so we upgraded for a full matching set.  We opted not to do china because we didn’t have the storage.  We got new towels because our old ones were a combination from when we moved in together.

We lived in an apartment when we got married, so we only registered for things we wanted or needed to upgrade.  I didn’t register for anything extravagant, and I have no regrets!

The only thing that we got that we haven’t used a year later was the BLENDER.  I registered for one because the one that we had was super old, cheap, and the lid wasn’t sealing any more.

But we also got a food processor, which I never had before and apparently I didn’t need both.  The blender is still in the box.  I should make a smoothie or something soon!

Probably the best thing we got – and this surprised me, because I didn’t even want to register for it, but Darling Husband insisted – was a nice toaster oven.  I use it at least once every day, and we were able to get rid of our microwave in favor of the toaster oven.

Things we use most: Nespresso machine, our second-nicest casual china (we registered for three sets of varying price and formality to give people options and we actually ended up getting all of them…which I wasn’t expecting), Vitamix, stemless wine glasses

Things we haven’t used at all and probably won’t see a lot of use in the future: Fancy china and crystal (but those are special occasion pieces anyway)

Things we don’t use much now, but will probably use a lot in the future: Knife block, All-Clad cookware, nice serving bowls and dishes

stevielee :  We skipped formal china and went with just nicer everyday dishware. Honestly, even that feels like “too much” for everyday. Someone gave us a set of corningware (not on the registry) and we’ve been using that.

Things I wish we hadn’t registered for: a pallea pan (I don’t even know how that got on there) and cast iron pan. We got our dutch oven and nice set of pots & pans, so I don’t feel the cast iron was necessary. We haven’t used it at all.

Things we will eventually use but haven’t yet: A heavy duty blender. We don’t have counter space for it now and use mostly our nutribullet for stuff, but I’d like to bust out the blender for margaritas and stuff.

Things we use constantly: Our pots & pans (we only had a couple not-great pieces before), bakeware, wine glasses, nice silverware. Our fancy ass toaster oven (can fit an 8×8 baking dish easily so since it’s just the two of us we rarely need the oven).

Things we should have registered for or did but didn’t receive: Servingware- platters, large bowls, etc.

The item I was the most excited about was our wine fridge, which my BFF bought us. It’s awesome. If I didn’t already own a KitchenAide mixer, I would have absolutely registrered for that. It’s a lifesaver.

I registered for many things that I know I won’t use often but I know I’ll use for a long time throughout the years – such as fine china, a Vitamix, fine tableware, linens, table chargers, french press, electric kettle…

The practical things I registered for and will use often – Dyson vacuum, bedding, All Clad cookware, Wusthof knife block set, everyday tableware, Nespresso machine, throw blankets, random decor pieces (such as a vase, elephant figurine, lamps, bookends, wall decor..)

stevielee :  We registered for things that we actually wanted, so the only returns we made were things that people went off-registry for that we didn’t have the need for. We upgraded a lot of things that my husband already had (got nicer towels and dishes) and got a few appliances that we still needed (hand mixer, crockpot, etc.). I think the most random thing I registered for was a Kate Spade teapot. I drink tea every day, so it’s not really random for me, but I thought it was cute and was going to buy it for myself later, but it ended up being gifted to us.

We registered for things that were practical and that we wanted. The most random things that we registered for were a collection of cookbooks, I really enjoy cooking and baking but I’m pretty sure that I could find the same recipes online.

stevielee :  I agree with some of the other PP’s I am totally in love with our toaster oven and also ditched the microwave. I use it daily (sometimes more than once a day). I love my formal china and crystal but that I only get to use like once or twice a year when we are hosting holidays. I didn’t register for a stand mixer like another PP because I already had one but definitely register for one (and the different attachments) because it saves you so much time and effort.

What I wish we didn’t register for was a toaster (I didn’t expect the toaster oven to be bought because it was on the pricey side and we ended up with both a toaster oven and a toaster, it’s still hanging out in its box).

We registered for mostly kitchen items because we have my parents hand-me-downs. The two things we “want” the most are the Vitamix blender and a cast iron dutch oven.
