I like black wedding gowns more than white ones so I vote YES to the black dress! =)

I personally wouldn’t, but that’s just me. There are so many beautiful dresses out there though that she’s bound to fine “the one” in black. SO actually wanted me to wear a black one, but I wanted to be more traditional with it.

@cerenatee:  Lol I happen to love that photo and the Romona Keveza gown – and now I love it even more because I can see that “Elvira vibe” you mentioned. Tongue Out Don’t mind me – I idolized Morticia and Wednesday Addams growing up lol.

Well I voted “I don’t see anything wrong with it” – then again, I’m biased because I’m also planning on wearing a black wedding dress, much to my mother’s chagrin.

Like other PPs have stated, I feel that it’s her wedding and it should be her choice if that is what she wants to wear and what will make her happy. I do agree with

@lovekiss:  in that if her parents are paying for her dress, then perhaps a compromise would need to be reached – otherwise, it’s her decision.

I have to say that I’m glad to see that people have been generally of the idea because it bodes well for when my time comes to deal with people’s opinions re. my dress.

I personally would not wear a black wedding dress, but if that’s your style then go with it!

I personally wouldn’t do it because you can wear black anywhere, but how often are you a bride? Blush is awesome though.

I voted no, because I wanted (and got) an ivory dress.  I think there are some gorgeous ones, though.  Just make sure she thinks it through and is committed to the choice.  The feel definitely is a bit goth:

I see how the dresses would be beautiful and ultimately it’s the bride and grooms day it’s whatever they prefer but I’m old fashioned. I’d never wear black to or in a wedding. It seems like the opposite of what a wedding is supposed to be. But than again I see black for funerals and white for weddings

All black dresses can be gorgeous on the right bride. There was a Say Yes to the Dress episode with a famous rocker’s wife who requested a black dress.

I love the idea of a black wedding dress here are some links:

They’re fun to me. My dress I am wearing is champagne because I’ve never been a “white” kind of bride and really love it when I see a bride in something different, a color unique to her personality and style.

There are always going to be people who prefer tradition over what makes someone happy and that is life, if I was the bride I’d just smile and shrug them off and do what I want. More power to her!

No black dresses for me. So goes the old saying “married in black, you’ll wish yourself back.”

I think they’re gorgeous, but since I only get 1 socially acceptable chance to wear a huge white dress (and I like white/ivory) I want to take it.

I love the dresses Vera Wang bought out in black and I am sure they could be replicated! I don’t see any problem with it. White is actually a newer tradition with wedding dresses so i say the bride should be allowed to wear what she wants to wear! Perhaps she could sway her parents to let her have 2 dresses, one ivory(traditional) and one black?

@Miss Circe:  This is me basically. I love the gothy “elvira” vibe! I’d wear most of the dresses posted in this thread, and there’s a poufy black dress that’s in the running for me right now actually 😀 😀 😀 …though it’s competing with a purple one that might win…
