I think the best weddings are the ones that feel like the Bride and Groom, not the ones that feel like a magazine shoot.  So if you want to add some fun details to ensure that your wedding is “you” and stands out, I think that is pretty easily achieved by focusing on what you like and adding details to reflect that.

For example – and these are just my things, so you should do whatever feels right to you.  My FH is from Cape Cod, so we are having Cape Codders as our signature cocktail.  I love the color torquoise and have many too many clothes in that color, so my wedding shoes are torquoise.  I also added some torquoise beads to the center of my hair flower.  We love old jazz music and wanted to pay tribute to his grandparents’ wedding (they have both passed away), so we are playing a ton of Frank Sinatra-esque music.  Our processional song is by Wilco.

If you want something that just looks “special,” like magazine special, you don’t have to hire a designer.  Just start trolling style me pretty and Martha for ideas, then copy, copy, copy.

A little bit of unique decorating can go a long way.  Everyone has seen the wedding that’s dressed to the T in table and chair linens, rose bouquets, and tulle.  What we don’t see as much are unique little pieces that are specific to the couple’s taste.  You don’t have to fill up a room with decor to make it look well put together.

Here are a few things I’m doing / hoping to do to make my wedding unique:

– Mariachi band (FI is Mexican)

– Rod iron gazebo above cake table

– Coffee beans in centerpieces

– Original first dance song
