@Beachy0404:  We are honeymooning in Barbados for 8 days. We are staying at an All-Inclusive on the South Coast. There is so much to do in Barbados, I can’t imagine wanting to leave the island. Sorry I can’t be more help.

I’ve been to Barbaodos twice and was pretty “meh” about it. Their coral is in awful shape and i’m not a huge fan of off-water activities. If I could choose an island to be based on, i’d go with St. Lucia. Its mountains and jungles are far more dramatic and beautiful.

Our honeymoon is in September.  We decided on Barbados as Couples Resorts just bought a resort there and it’s being completely renovated.  I’ve heard amazing things about both Barbados and Couples.  Check it out! 🙂

TO @Beachy0404:  sorry, I am only finding this topic now.

Mr TTR and I are semi-retired and we travel a lot.

Barbados is a very wealthy & developed island… much more in some ways like the rest of NA than the Caribbean

Consequently you wont find many AIs there... as they dont need them to attract tourists (poorer less developed countries depend far heavier on AIs)

Which is one of the reasons some of the best prices for AIs can be found in less stable places economically or politically like… Cuba, Mexico, Dominican Republic & Jamaica (won`t go to those last 2 countries ever again).

Pricer AIs can be found in safer places like… Antigua – St Lucia – Bahamas – Turks & Caicos – Aruba, etc.

Barbados is a beautiful Caribbean Destination however, one of my absolute faves.  And by Caribbean standards it is a BIG Island at aprox 34 Kms long and 23 Kms wide (20 x 15 miles)

So it is very very easy to spend your whole vacation here.

If you want to go onto another island, then you`ll find island hopping airfare not to be a cheap thing (as it is one of the ways that people, goods and services move between the islands)

The 2 closest islands are St Vincent and St Lucia, and both are approx 115 Miles (180 Kms) away.  Flying time is under an hour (about 45 minutes).

For the record, flying between the various Caribbean Islands has its issues… many of the flights are on “puddle jumpers” and with airlines that have not the best record or equipment.  IMO you sort of have to be a brave soul to intentionally want to do this kind of thing.

PLUS then if you don`t get a round trip back to your Country of Origin, then there is the complication of doing a one way fare for both of the different countries you are visiting, and well the BIG World Carriers (be they US, Canadian, European) tend to ding you hard on that element as well.

Personally, I`d pick one country and stay put… or pick a country that has a multitude of islands to it… or go on a cruise, where you can experience a lot of the Caribbean at once (cruises tend to be very good value for the money, in that they are one flat rate like an AI… and some even include Beverages / Alcohol, Excursions, etc)

Mr TTR and I went on a Caribbean Cruise for our own Honeymoon (not our first) and we truly loved it.  This one took us to 6+ Different Countries over 8 Days… San Juan, PR – Barbados – St Lucia – Antigua – Sint Maarten / St Martin – St Thomas, USVI – and back to San Juan, PR

Hope this helps,

PS… Every Caribbean Island is quite different from the next.  We LOVED St Lucia (tropical rain forest) and Antigua very much.  Lol, but then we liked Sint Maarten & St Martin too, as well as St Thomas, and PR.

It really is more about what you are looking for in a holiday.  I suggest you do some reading / research… Wikipedia is a good place to start for an overview. BUT TripAdvisor is awesome for Trip Planning (best on the net).  They have Travel Guides – Reviews (Accommodations – Restaurants – Attractions) and the added feature of their Forums (like our Boards here on WBee) where you can post Questions… or just browse those others have asked… and get feedback one-on-one from Destination Experts, Locals, and those that know a Destination really really well.  I LOVE TA, and won`t travel anymore without consulting it first.  (And likewise their sister site… Cruise Critic for any Cruises I am planning)

@fridaythe13bride:  we just returned today from our Barbados honeymoon! I cannot say enough great things about the island. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort in the South called Turtle Beach Resort. The new Couples Resort is right next door and opened while we were there. If you have any questions about the island please let me know. We loved it so much we are already planning our next trip there!!!!

@DayDay So excited to hear your trip went great!  I don’t have any questions just yet but thank you…actually I take that back – what was your favorite experience while you were there?  I’d love to see the island a little bit, but don’t want to overdo it (I tend to plan too much haha and since it’s our honeymoon, I want to have plenty of time to relax!)

@Beachy0404:  it was awesome! i really enjoyed being at an all-inclusive because we didn’t have to worry about money every time we ate or drank. everyone there was really nice and always willing to help out. we spent most of the time in the pool as it is very hot and humid there and it is a bit windy on the beach so sand would blow in your face a lot when laying out there. the catamaran cruise to feed sea turtles that is included is awesome as well. my husband already wants to go back!
