Darling Husband and I were originally going to honeymoon in a tiny place in St Kitts. We’ve had to put our honeymoon off because we are remodeling my house after I had a major flood. With 3 school aged kids, we need to get into the house as soon as possible and my husband is doing most of the work. So now, we are going to try to hoineymoon this winter, but the place in St Kitts is booked. I was thinking either an all inclusive in Punta Cana in the DR or a cruise. Anyone have a resort or a cruise line they particularly like?

Mrs.Sawyertobe: I really like Celebrity – they have amazing service and their food is amazing. I’ve heard good things about Princess, but I have never gone with them.

I’ve been to DR a few times and I’m not really a fan. Not sure what your budget is, but for a honeymoon, I’d suggest other islands, such as Turks & Caicos, Antigua, Aruba, etc. Having been on a cruise, I would also recommend a cruise, especially since it allows you to stop at many islands, so you get to experience more than one place.
Warnings about cruises though – lots of hidden expenses, if you get sea/motion sickness, you will definitely have a hard time on a cruise, and the rooms can be really really small. Check out some good cruise review sites for an idea of the pros/cons of each ship.

I have been on Norweigan and didn’t really care for it. I thought the food was just so-so, but it was also a long time ago!
Thanks for the DR. Actually, I’ll take recommendations for any island. I don’t want Sandals St Lucia because he went there with his ex-wife, and I really do not want to go to the Bahamas or Jamaica. But otherwise, I’ll take suggestions. Would like to keep it around $5K.

If you do choose to go to the DR look into Iberostar Grand Bavaro. We spent our honeymooon their this past March and I couldn’t have been more impressed. The resort is beautiful, the beach is paradise, the staff treat you like royalty, we had drink after drink and I ate lobster and Kobe steak daily. The food is out of this world. My husband wanted adventure and I wanted the relaxing romantic trip and this seemed to be the best of both worlds. Plus, it’s kid free. Definitely keep that in mind when choosing a place, haha! Our cab driver from the airport said we chose the best resort on the island and I agree. Good luck 🙂

Mrs.Sawyertobe: I’ve been on a Carnival cruise and didn’t love it, so I’m kind of biased against cruises. If you are looking to do more than eat and drink, I say look in to something else other than a cruise.

St Martin is great! There is a resort I went to a few years ago called the Westin. It was new at the time but amazing, it is away from the city though so it’s far from everything you will need to rent a car which we did. It was a great idea because we got around on our own, found mom and pop places to eat and went to the supermarket to buy cereal and snacks.
Aruba is amazing as well, stayed at the renaissance which has a boat going out of it’s lobby to it’s own private island. It is in the “city” no on the strip with all the other hotels.
I would not recommend Jamaica, I actually hated it. I know you said not Bahamas but the Atlantis is very nice. Also Batbados was nice but I only went there on a cruise.
Also stay away from carnival, it was horrible. I highly recommend Princess or Royal Carribean.
Went to Punta Cana stayed at a all inclusive resort that I would t recommend, but I don’t remember the name. I would make sure that my resort is amazing as you can’t leave your resort whole there. We did an off resort excursion and it was nice but with a group of people.
I stayed at Ibrerostar in Mexico and it was amazing!
