I’d check out Cheap Caribbean, they have really good deals.

We got married/honeymooned at The Royal in Playa del Carmen. It was an AMAZING resort but is probably just above your budget.

@mrsbruff2b:

That’s the best in the whole of cancun! I stayed at the Royal and thought it was overrated.

We went to Riu Palace Pacifico in PV in 2010, and I think we paid around 1600-1700 for both of us for five nights, all-inclusive with airfare. It’s definitely one of my favorite AIs that I’ve stayed at in Mexico.

We booked through Orbitz or Travelocity.

I’ve stayed at the Riu Santa Fe twice before… around $200-250 a night for 2 people, all-inclusive. We only had about $2000 (including airfare) for a honeymoon, and are on the west coast, so we decided to just go back to that resort. The food isn’t the best, but at that price, you can afford to venture out a few nights and eat nicer places! The breakfast is just fine and the restaurants (if you get up in time to make reservations the day of) are pretty decent on location as well. The entire resort is just GORGEOUS! The entire staff is friendly and helpful. Pools are amazing and not overly crowded. I was there November 2010, September 2011 and will be back February 2012 😉 We loved it that much!

Good luck!

p.s. if you book the Riu hotels online, through their website, you are reserved but dont have to pay for the room until you arrive. The prices are the best through their actual website too! And don’t forget to add transportation for $15…. they pick you up at the airport and provide transport back to the airport.

Do not stay at the Barcelo Costa Cancun!! They are rude, the food is so disgusting and I dont think they put alcohol in their drinks. We went in July last year and it was the worst week of my life.

One more thing about that trip, my fiance cut his head open on a stalagtite in a cave at Xcaret (wear your helmets! lol) and he needed stitches. The hotel was at the very end of the strip so by the time we got there we were running out of time. They say they have 24 hour medical service but that is not true. They have someone on call. By the time we could get someone to help us (fiance is bleeding from the head-no one cared!) they told us to go to our room. It was over an hour before we got treatment.

Sorry for my rant… By The Way we got food poisening (not montezuma’s revenge) twice! ick!

I did hear nice things about the Riu hotels from others on our excursions!
