Those dresses are great.

My dress story gets much better (I have more posts coming up) but if I could go back in time and say anything to myself, it would be to make even more phone calls and be more insistent about trying things on, and not embarrassed when people say “we can’t help you” over and over again, because eventually someone will say, “Here, we can help!”and it will be better.

There is a lot of great advice in the comments section of that post.

In the meantime, try Alfred Angelo… they have so much stuff! I was at least able to try on a few different A-lines and ballgowns, which I liked.

@MrsH1010, I like the 1st and 2nd ones! I think they’d look great on you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I am a plus size beauty! I love my dress and much to my surprise, it was not anything I would have picked out on my own. I am a size 22-24. I have to say that by now, I am pretty comftorable in my skin. Still wouldn’t mind going back to my pre-baby size, but oh well. I ended up with a halter top and a corset bodice. I also have an A-line bottom.

I don’t know if its your sort of thing and what your budget is like but if you buy a amazing detailed corset then you can feel a million quid!

lamagia.co.uk is a amazing website with gorgeous corsets and you can choose your own waist size and stuff – bit pricey but hey ho if your the kind of girl who’ll wear it again …. then buy a seperate bridal skirt!

i am also starting to dread looking for my wedding dress

i have seen a few nice ones at davids bridal but am too scared to go try them on… Im thinking of making an appointment soon.

my thing is alot of people want to go with me and i dont want to be dissapointed in front of everyone if  i dont find my dress.. is it rude to not tell people when im going? just have my mom and my maid of honor?

Ok seriously, how many size 8 women are out there that that is the “sample size” for most dresses.  This street size 20 chick wasn’t having it so I called around and let people know that I was dissapointed that they didn’t carry larger sizes.  Who wants to order something if they aren’t sure…no pressure there to buy at all!

I came across a plus size ONLY bridal salon here in Phx AZ and I’m excited to try things on.  My only problem with David’s Bridal is that the women that work at the 2 stores close to me might as well be in diapers and I’m only 29!  I do not want a teenage skinny @ss girl to tell me what I look good in.  Sorry, but unless you eat a donut in front of me honey, you’re not helping me.

I found my dress at Alfred Angelo – they had quite a variety of styles for plus size, and I just loved the experience. It’s AA 2003W. I ordered it March 6 and it came in last week! Picked it up yesterday, and I’m glad it’s at my parent’s house, otherwise I’d play dress up every day!

I’m a pear shaped size 16, and my advice is to just do your best to get over your fears and not be afraid to try on dresses of all different shapes and styles.  I went to David’s Bridal and ended up buying the 9T9612 (sexy name, I know).  I never would have thought it would work for me because they describe it as a trumpet style dress.  But the slimmer cut was way more flattering on me than the traditional A-lines and Ball gowns, which everything I saw online said would be the most flattering cuts on a pear shaped lady like me.

So.  Moral of the story – keep your mind open!

P.S.  I loved my experience at David’s Bridal.  Maybe I just lucked out, but there was another plus sized bride trying on at the same time and it just made things very comfortable.  Much better than my one visit to a boutique where the only other person trying on dresses was a size 2 and was trying on dresses similar to mine (i.e. she looked fabulous in every.single.one and the samples didn’t even fit over my hips)
