the nicest gift i’ve seen get given (by my sister) is decorations for every holiday of the year.  You’d have to start collecting a year early, so I don’t really know if you have time for something like that.  But, it’s a really nice thoughtful gift.

my Maid/Matron of Honor got me a cd with all songs related to us…we’ve been best friends since Jr High so lots of Jock Jams for us!

And she painted wine glasses for me , which is usually my gift to my friends- so totally unexpected. Sentimental things are just awesome!

@hid-den: If she loves wine (and her Fiance does too), a really cool gift would be to get her 3-4 bottles of good wine- one to open right away, one to open on her 1st anniversary, one on her 5th, and one on her 10th.  Make sure you talk to an expert at the wine store, though, to pick the ones that will age well – some are crafted to be drunk right away, some in a few years, and some in 10 years or more.

Wine is always good… Maybe some nice glasses as well.

I just had the shower this past weekend for the wedding I am the Maid/Matron of Honor in! I got her an adorable apron from Anthropologie, 2 coffee mugs from there monogrammed with “P” (her married name), and then I got her a white VS thong that said “bride” on it to wear on her wedding day! None of the stuff was from her registry, but it was all stuff she could use.

I’ve never been a Maid/Matron of Honor but I was a glorified bridesmaid in my friends wedding (her Maid/Matron of Honor was her younger, broke sister so I paid for the entire shower) and I made her a pretty rad gift….

Basically it consisted of 3 different gift bags labeled with “First comes love”, “Then comes marriage” and “And then reality sets in…”

“First comes love”: Nice picture frame with a picture of her and her (now) hubs when they were dating, 2 tickets to a local hockey game (their first date was at a hockey game) and some KY Yours and Mine (this was an inside joke – my friend mentioned that she wanted to try it like a million times).

“Then comes marriage”: Sexy lingerie, a wedding day survival kit (a bunch of travel sized stuff in a small tool box that I decorated), a cute “Do Not Disturb” sign, gift certificate to the nail salon (she was broke and planning on doing her own nails for the wedding), a bottle of decent champagne and 2 glass champagne flutes.

“And then reality sets in…”: Flannel PJ’s, granny panties (these were comically large), rubber gloves, some cleaning supplies and a gigantic bottle of extra strength tylenol.

It was a huge hit and my friend loved it. All together it cost me around $100 but I imagine it could be done for cheaper.

I’ve seen lots of cute things!

A personalized photo album would be really special. Like, premake all the pages so all she had to do is add photos. Look at this: http://www.etsy.com/listing/55229171/ooak-travel-art-journal-6×6-scrapbook?ref=sr_gallery_27&ga_search_submit=&ga_search_query=scrapbook&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_noautofacet=1&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade%2Fbooks_and_zines

You can personalize it as much as you wish and although it takes time, it’s a one-of-a-kind gift that she can cherish forever!

My SIL made one for my sister’s baby shower and she absolutely LOVES it, and it’s so cute. I had made one for my first boyfriend for our one-year anniversary too and I remember how special it was.

These are always fun too! My mom got me one for my shower that says “Bless Our Nest” because we had a bird-themed wedding (our song was Come Fly With Me!), and we love it!

Personalized gifts are always the best, it shows how well you know someone (like the scrapbook or wood sign).

Hope you can come up with something! good luck!!

How about something spa-related? A gift certificate or some nail stuff, maybe. I got my now-sister-in-law (brother’s wife) an at-home facial steamer and she loved it. It’s all about the pampering.
