For the past 5 or so years, I’d have random, awful allergic reactions only affecting the skin around my eyes. My eyes would get super red, puffy, itchy and would burn like crazy. This would last for at least 3-4 days before getting better. I’ve started taking claritin pretty regularly for the eye thing, as well as other seasonal allergies. Yesterday I decided to try a sample mascara I was given in a Birchbox. Everything was fine until last night I went to take my makeup off and the skin below my eyes started getting really red, itchy, swollen. Noooo!
My dermatologist is booked solid for the next two weeks so I can’t get in to see her. Ultimately I think I need to have a patch test done to determine what exactly triggers this (I’m assuming makeup since it only affects the area around my eye/eyelid). Fi is picking me up some Allegra cream on the way home from work…I read that is okay to use around your eye area.
Does anyone else suffer from this? Any tips or tricks to get the redness/itching/swelling down ASAP???

@kat912: Allergy eyedrops usually help me. I’ve found that I have to be careful what mascara I use because some of it irritates my eyes causing them to itch and sometimes sores appear along the lash line. Since I started using basic regular Clinique mascara I have had zero issues with eye allergies. I figure that anything with waterproofing or plumping ends up falling into my eyes and causing the allergic reaction.
This is what I use for the itch along with a Benadryl:

@beachbride1216: Yeah, I think a switch to Clinique might be good for me too. I’ve heard good things about their eye makeup. Thanks!

aww you poor thing! I suffer from allergies too and it sucks.
go for hypoallergenic makeup made from organic/natural ingredients…
I have supersensitive skin/lips and use Ere Perez products which are made from natural things such as almond oil, olive oil, jojoba and so on. I used their makeup for my wedding and it was awesome!
