Is this going to be a religious ceremony? You could call it a renewal or a blessing depending on which direction you are going. Congratulations, by the way!

Husband and I got married in court as well :), but only his parents and my cousin made it since my family lives in Japan, I do too, and had to travel to the US (husband used to live in Japan as well), and it was a quick decision, we got married just 3 months after we got engaged (dated for 3 years) since he had to go on deployment, and I decided to come back to Japan while he’s gone for almost a year! Both of our family are happy with our decision though, so this is the reason why we are having a formal ceremony in Hawaii next year. We want to celebrate our love with our family and a few friends. Here’s our invitation. Hopefully you can sit down and formally talk to your family (with your husband with you).

I would call it a “marriage celebration” or vow renewal. You didn’t get to celebrate before though, so marriage celebration is entirely appropriate. Just don’t call it a wedding and you won’t offend anyone.

I hope your family with enough talks from you can see that this celebration is the time to extend and accept the olive branch of peace. Convince them that you wanted to be married back then asap, but you’re sorry you hurt them but hope they can accept your marriage and attend your celebration.
