I had my first real life bridal nightmare today! My gorgeous dress needed a hem, a bustle, and cups sewn in..nothing else! So we used the seamstress that works for the bridal store, thinking she would be good at what she does. Ha..worst mistake ever!
If you go to previous posts of mine, you’ll see that my dress is lace. Well, the lace is all appliqué, even the scalloped edge all the way around the bottom. So instead of removing the appliqué at the bottom, cutting the fabric, and reapplying the appliqué, she ripped out the seam at the waist and pulled the dress up. My dress now puckers all the way across the front. When I made a complaint as soon as I put it on and saw it, she insisted that because we altered the dress, it was going to look different. She basically moved the appliqués around the waist to attempt to cover it up after I threw a fit. The dress is still too long despite all of this. AND, tonight we got home and noticed she left almost a 3 inch section of the inside seam open!!
Step 2 was the bustle. I had her do a flat, under bustle so my dress would be one length all the way around. She tried telling me that my dress wasn’t made for that bustle, despite multiple resources saying that bustle is ideal for lace dresses. My dress still touches the ground when the bustle is done, meaning it is going to get filthy!
So, we paid $350 for all of this and obviously it is a huge mess! We took my dress home tonight because we refuse to let that lady touch it again. It will be going to a different seamstress Monday who is very reputable. She will take the dress back down from the waist, remove the appliqué and properly hem the dress, and rework the bustle so it lays flat and doesnt lay on the ground.
Talk about one stressed out bride! Just needed to vent to you bees!
