Pilar Duffner!  She is a cute older Spanish lady and from what I hear, a whiz with intricate wedding dresses!  She is altering mine, I have my first fitting next weekend!

My fitting was great!  She quoted me $250, but I needed a lot of work done on the dress because it was four sizes too big.  I should warn you of two things though: 1) She is dependable, but not super fast because it is only her doing the alterations, and 2) She doesn’t accept every new client, if she is too busy at the time she won’t overcommit herself and take something that will put her behind on all of her work.  But she does great work and really cares about the dresses!

Hey Ms. Kitten!  I am in the same situation as you… I bought my Monique Lhuillier dress at the Neiman Marcus sample sale, also, and it is way too big!  I’ve been worried (well, okay, by worried I mean "happily still dress shopping") because I’ve heard you can usually only alter a dress by two sizes.  Was Pilar at all concerned about that?  I live in San Antonio, so I may have to track her down.

@peachapple48:  The ML dresses I bought were size 10 and I am usually smaller than a 0!  Both of them could be altered easily, suprisingly enough it was the length that was going to be tricky because the bottom of my ML dress had beautiful scalloped lace!  But it all depends on the dress style!  I would bring it to a few different places to see what they think, but Pilar is just great!  And she is great with lacy details!  I ended up selling both of my ML dresses and buying a Melissa Sweet Lia that was a 4 or 6.  Altering that down took a lot of work, but it turned out beautifully!

I would totally recommend Alexa Gavela Bridal.  They have wonderful seamstresses!  I didn’t buy my gown there but read some amazing reviews online and decided to give them a shot.  So far, so good!
