I have no idea if anyone knows this answer, but I thought I’d ask.
A basic seamtress friend of mine took my measurements today to see if I’m anywhere near the vintage measurements of the vintage dress I’m in love with. She wouldn’t do any alterations because that’s just too big of a job for her, but she knows her stuff when it comes to seamtress knowledge. Everything is spot on and would only need to be taken in no more than once inch in areas, but a lot can happen in a year, so I, of course, wouldn’t get alterations yet.
Anyway, her biggest concern was the following —
The bodice from shoulder to waist is 18 inches on the dress.
My front measurement for that is 15 inches and my back measurement for that is 16.5 inches. She wasn’t sure if this could be altered, and if it wasn’t, it might make everything else lay lower down (mainly where the waist of the dress would land on me) different than its intended location.
Does anyone know if this particular thing can be altered or would cause a major problem if unaltered?
Edited to add: Also, can shoulder width seam-to-seam be altered down? The dress is 18 inches and I’m 15 inches.
