When I bought this dress I was absolutely in love with it but now I’m feeling some dress remorse and wishing I picked something more figure hugging. My alteration appointment is in 3 weeks and I’ve been going crazy trying to figure out a way to make the dress “mine”.
Any ladies with alteration suggestions? (and I apologize if the picture is gigantic, it’s my first time posting!)

Pretty dress (that satin looks lovely in that cut). I adore ball gown silhouettes.
As for alterations, unless you’re willing to rip out the skirt seam entirely, there is no way to magically alter this style into a more form-fitting silhouette. Instead, I would suggest 1) pulling the dress down a tad (currently it’s sitting too high), 2) try removing the belt and replacing it with a thinner one, and 3) either
- taking out some of the gathers/pleats around your waist for a smoother waistline (right now all of that fabric is adding too much bulk) OR
- simply adding a crinoline so that the skirt is much fuller
Smoother waistline OR Fuller Skirt

@MlleFabuleux: That’s what I was afraid of 🙁 Do you think that removing some of the tulle from under the skirt might help it lay more slimly as well? Thank you for all of the suggestions though, I will definitely keep them in mind when I go for my alterations!

@tnrunnergirl: You’re welcome. 🙂 Removing the tulle will likely help it lay better. You should definitely let your seamstress know your concerns/vision and also ask her what she recommends for a smoother fit. She’ll probably have a trick or two up her sleeves that could get you the closer to the fit you want.
Do you have a photo of what you’d like your dress to look like? Taking that to the seamstress might also help your seamstress with alterations.
