I purchased my dress online as well and via the boards, I was able to find a seamstress.  Check out yelp.com, weddingbee.com, and craigslist.com.  You will need to have your undergarments to begin alterations.   Also alterations normally begin 6wks before the wedding.  Hemming is simple.  A good seamstress can easily take in your dress.  Its easier to take in than let out.

For undergarments, I suggest a strapless bra(Wear a bra unless you have cups sewn in) and some pretty undies.  Check out figleaves.com or herroom.com for advice on bridal undergarments.  Also check out Youtube cause you’ll be surprised what you can learn on there.  I found a great bra fitting video.

If prefer face to face help, go into a higher end lingerie department store and explain what you need.  You most likely will only need a bra and some shapewear.

Hope this helps:)

Hi, Go to a dressmaker not a seamstress. A professional dressmaker makes dresses from scratch and can let in and let out any dress without problems. Trust me.

i’m not sure i agree with that actually^^^^^

i am a dressmaker, but i have aslo done alterations, and it is much more difficult and time consuming to alter a dress than it is to make one from scratch.

i think either a seamstress or a dressmaker can do it for you,

I would go to someone that usually specializes in bridal gowns. Not all dresses are made the same way as bridal gowns. Its your wedding dress teh most important dress you will ever wear I wouldnt want some fly by night seamstress messing with my dress. I would rather pay a bit more for someone who is trained to do wedding dresses specifically.
