So I got my Melissa Sweet dress for $200 at a Priscilla of Boston sale, and I’ve been debating whether to take it to the Priscilla of Boston alterations department or take it to my regular seamstress. I spoke with the salon manager at the boutique and she recommended that I take it in to be specially cleaned and altered (it’s a little long, has a few tears here and there and needs to be taken in a bit at the bust), but I have a feeling it will be more expensive than what my regular seamstress would charge me.
On the other hand, I’ve never had anything altered in a big way by my seamstress–I go to her regularly for hemming pants and the occasional dress alteration–and I’m not sure if I should entrust my dress to a non-wedding dress specialist. She says she’d be able to do it, but my gut tells me that maybe I should go with someone who’s an expert in wedding dresses, not just hemming pants.
On the other hand (I’m running out of hands) I’m on a tight budget, but I did save a ton of money on the dress to begin with so maybe I should splurge and make sure the dress gets fitted right.
From what I can see, all it needs is a good cleaning, a hemming, some alterations in the bust and mending some minor tears.
Here is the dress, by the way. It’s the Tiffany by Melissa Sweet from a few years ago.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
